Today our administrative team gathered in Shelbyville, with staff traveling from Clarksville and across our service area to share updates, celebrate progress, and look ahead to what’s next.

One of the most encouraging takeaways is the impact being made through The Center for Family Development’s programs. Across our organization, we are currently serving nearly 300 families, reaching more than 1,100 individuals through direct services, case management, support, education, and resource connections.

It is humbling to see our reach continue to grow and to witness the difference that dedicated staff, strong partnerships, and compassionate support can make in the lives of families across Middle Tennessee.

We are also excited about upcoming trainings and continued growth within our programs. Through Healthy Families, several staff members are pursuing certification as Lactation Consultants, adding another layer of care and support for the families we serve.

The future is bright, and we look forward to sharing more updates, milestones, and stories of impact in the months ahead.

Well… this week brought an unexpected surprise.

A large tree branch came down and landed on our office property. Thankfully, no one was injured, the building was unharmed, and we’re grateful for that blessing.

The cleanup has been completed and our driveway is clear again, but it left behind a sizable amount of cut wood and large tree logs that could make great firewood.

Rather than let it go to waste, we’d love to turn this into an opportunity to support local families.
If you’re interested in picking up some firewood, we simply ask that you consider making a donation to The Center for Family Development. Every dollar given helps us continue serving children, caregivers, and families throughout our communities.

If you have the means to gather and haul the logs, or know someone who does, please send us a DM and we’ll coordinate a pickup time. We would also appreciate you sharing this post with others who may be interested.

More than 30 years ago, a vision took root.

Long before TCFD served families across 22 counties, before thousands of home visits, support groups, caregiver services, parenting programs, and community partnerships, there was a simple belief: strong families deserve support.

This photo captures a moment from those early days. A newspaper article highlighting Denise Hobbs and the Healthy Families program, one of the foundational roots of what would eventually become The Center for Family Development.

Since then, countless families have walked through our doors. Children who were once held in the arms of young parents are now adults raising families of their own. Grandparents have found support. Caregivers have found encouragement. Communities have found partners.

What makes this story remarkable isn’t simply the longevity. It’s the commitment to continue growing.

More than three decades later, Denise is still helping shape the future, still asking how families can be better supported, and still challenging us to imagine what the next 30 years can look like.

Legacy isn’t built by standing still.

It’s built by honoring the roots while continuing to grow new branches.

As we reflect on where we’ve been, we’re grateful for every family, every staff member, every partner, and every community that has been part of this journey.

The story is still being written.

Every family has a story.
Some are navigating the joy of welcoming a new child. Some are raising grandchildren they never expected to parent again. Some are working through challenges that feel overwhelming. Others simply need someone to help them find the next step.

We have learned that meaningful support begins with relationships.

Before the referrals, resources, classes, and services, there is a conversation. A visit. A moment of trust. A chance for someone to feel heard without judgment and supported without conditions.

For more than 30 years, TCFD has worked alongside families by providing more than programs. We provide connection. We help families navigate systems, access resources, build confidence, strengthen relationships, and find stability during difficult seasons.

Whether through home visitation, parenting support, caregiver services, family engagement, or community partnerships, our goal remains the same: to walk alongside people with compassion, dignity, and care.
Because strong families are built one relationship at a time.

And every day, we are honored to be part of that story.

Community Connections Matter!

Clarksville Area Families: Be sure to check out the CovenantCare Practices Wellness Event on June 13 from 10 AM–1 PM. Families can enjoy wellness information, community resources, activities, giveaways, and more. TCFD is honored to be highlighted as a Community Partner and to support this family-centered event.

Stewart & Houston County Families: Expectant parents and families with children up to age 2 are invited to attend the Community Baby Shower on June 13 from 10 AM–1 PM in Dover. This free event will feature resources, safety education, door prizes, food, and support for growing families.

Through our Parents as Teachers (PAT) program, families receive personalized in-home visits focused on child development, parent-child interaction, school readiness, and family well-being. We believe parents are their child’s first and most important teacher, and we’re here to provide encouragement, resources, and support every step of the way.

Meeting People Where They Are.

Recovery doesn’t always begin in an office. Sometimes it begins in a parking lot, beside a mobile unit, through a conversation, a resource guide, or someone willing to listen.

Recently, The Center for Family Development’s Rural Healthcare Resiliency Program (RHRP) partnered with Cedar Recovery’s Mobile Unit in Lawrenceburg to help connect individuals and families with resources that support mental health, substance use recovery, housing, employment, and overall wellness.

This is what resilience looks like, partnerships, prevention, recovery, and hope working together to strengthen rural communities across Middle Tennessee.

Every conversation matters. Every connection matters. Every person matters.

What started as a simple art activity became something much more.

Elizabeth with our Relative Caregiver Program had a vision, to fill one of our office walls with artwork created by the children and families we serve. Not just to decorate a space, but to tell a story.

Ice cream cones, bright colors, and playful brushstrokes now line the wall as a reminder that childhood should be filled with creativity, joy, and moments that bring families together. Each canvas represents more than paint, it represents connection, confidence, laughter, and memories made alongside caregivers who are stepping up every day for the children they love.

As we head into the summer season, these colorful creations serve as a symbol of the fun, learning, and family-centered events still to come. They remind us that sometimes the most meaningful masterpieces aren’t found in galleries, they’re found in the hands of children who are given the opportunity to create.
