🛑 Reminder: Under the new school bus safety law, drivers on multi-lane and four-lane roads must stop when a school bus has its stop arm deployed. The only exception is for traffic traveling in the opposite direction on a four-lane road separated by a raised physical barrier or an unpaved median.

Please join us in welcoming Deputy Benjamin Bird to the Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Bird was recently sworn in as a Deputy Sheriff and is currently assigned to Court Security duties at the Judicial Center. Upon successful completion of Basic Training at the Police Academy, he will be assigned to the Patrol Division.

Deputy Bird brings prior law enforcement experience to our agency, and we are pleased to welcome him to our team. We wish him continued success as he begins his career with the Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Jonah Cloninger has officially graduated and is now a Patrol Deputy, having completed the Department of Criminal Justice Training Basic Police Academy and the Sheriff’s Office Field Training Program.

Deputy Cloninger served our country as a Specialist in the U.S. Army before joining the Sheriff's Office.

• They will NEVER ask for payment over the phone
• They do NOT accept payment via gift cards, wire transfers, or payment apps

• Hang up immediately

Today, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office proudly welcomed Zack Gaines, who was officially sworn in as a Deputy Sheriff.

Deputy Gaines also serves as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserve and is a 13-year military veteran. He will attend the Basic Police Academy before beginning his duties as a Patrol Deputy.

Please join us in congratulating Deputy Gaines and welcoming him to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
