📢Shelby County Has a Problem: Out-of-town politicians want to take away our right to care for our own neighbors!
A central tradition in Shelby County is the moral responsibility we have to look out for one another. But right now, distant bureaucrats are trying to dismantle a rule that protects our neighbors. A dangerous federal opinion threatens to strip away a basic civil right for people with disabilities: the right to live and receive services right here in the community rather than being forced into isolated institutions.
This is a direct attack on Local Control. When outside forces try to dictate who belongs in our neighborhoods, we lose the ability to keep our community whole. Our opponents are actively seeking to take away the hard-won rights of people with disabilities, giving a green light to defund local support systems. We believe that a true culture of caring means ensuring every single person can stay with the families and neighbors who love them.
The Shelby County Dems Have a Plan:
Keep Families Together: We will fiercely defend local, community-based care. Neighbors with disabilities belong right here in Shelby County, not tucked away in a distant facility.
Seamless Healthcare and Support: We will advocate to ensure that independent living supports and healthcare reach every corner of the county, ensuring individuals have the freedom and dignity they deserve.
Standing for Dignity: Leadership means protecting the vulnerable. We will prioritize local community control, respect, and kindness over bureaucratic overreach.
A neighbor shouldn't be forced out of their community just to get the care they need. Let’s protect our own.
