I am proud to share that Shelbyville Police Department K9s Rocket and Titan have received bullet and stab protective vests through a generous donation from Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.

Our K9 officers serve alongside our police department every day, helping keep our community safe. We are grateful for organizations and individuals who recognize their service and make investments like this possible.
Thank you to everyone who supports law enforcement and our four-legged officers. 🐕‍🦺🇺🇸

It was great to see so many families come out today for the Touch A Truck event hosted by Shelbyville/Shelby County Parks at Clear Creek Park.
Events like this are a great reminder of what makes our community special — bringing families together and giving children (and kids at heart!) the chance to climb in, explore, and get a close-up look at the trucks and equipment that help serve our community every day.
A big thank you to all the departments, organizations, and volunteers who helped make today a success.

Today, our Public Works Department began installing American flags along with 250 commemorative flags throughout downtown Shelbyville, beginning at Ashland and Main and extending through a section of Washington Street.

This project helps highlight both our community spirit and our 250-year history as we continue to celebrate Shelbyville and Shelby County.

A special thank you to our Public Works Department for their hard work in getting this installed, and to Brian Cushing with our Historic District for helping bring this vision together. 🇺🇸

🚧 East Main Street Bridge Replacement Update — Closure Begins June 29

Our community has experienced a lot of construction, traffic changes, and detours over the past couple of years, and I know it has not always been easy. I understand the frustration, and as someone who lives here and travels these roads, I experience those impacts as well.

Beginning June 29th, the East Main Street Bridge will close as demolition and replacement construction begins. Attached is the traffic plan showing the affected area, traffic changes, and detour routes. I strongly encourage eveyone to plan ahead-review the traffic plan before traveling through the area, allow extra time, and consider alternate routes when possible.

This project is a necessary infrastructure improvement to help maintain a safe and reliable roadway for our residents, businesses, and everyone who travels through our community.

For the past two years, I have been working with KYTC District 5, our public safety teams, and community leaders to prepare for this closure and address traffic flow, emergency response, and community impacts.

KYTC signage will be placed throughout the area to help keep motorists informed as traffic patterns change. KYTC has also coordinated updates with navigation services such as Waze and other mapping systems to assist motorists with current route information.

While significant planning and coordination have gone into preparing for this closure, we also recognize that no plan is perfect and there may be challenges along the way. We ask for everyone’s patience, understanding, and a little grace as we work through this together.

The current schedule has the bridge and roadway reopening on or before December 18th, 2026.

Please allow extra travel time, pay attention to changing traffic patterns, and continue to support our local businesses and the crews working to complete this important project.

Thank you for your patience and for continuing to support our community.

Today, I had the honor of presenting a recognition to Ethington Building Supply as they celebrated an incredible milestone—50 years in business.
For five decades, Ethington Building Supply has been a trusted part of our community, serving generations of families, contractors, businesses, and homeowners throughout Shelby County. Their commitment to quality service, hard work, and customer care has helped build not only homes and businesses, but also lasting relationships throughout our community.
Reaching 50 years in business is a remarkable achievement and a testament to the dedication of the Ethington family and their employees. Small businesses like Ethington Building Supply are the backbone of our local economy, and their success has played an important role in Shelbyville's growth and prosperity.
On behalf of the City of Shelbyville, congratulations on 50 years of service, success, and community involvement.
