This statewide tornado drill that was originally scheduled for today has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled. The next drill will be in 2027 during Severe Weather Week.
The Sheldon Fire Department extends our thoughts and prayers to all those across Wisconsin and throughout the nation who have been impacted by the devastating storms this week. Severe weather can change lives in a matter of moments, and our hearts are with every family and community facing loss or hardship.
As we continue through storm season, we encourage everyone to remain weather-aware and prepared.
🚨 Rusk County Outdoor Warning Sirens
Rusk County tests its weather sirens on:
• 1st Monday of each month at 6:00 PM
• 3rd Monday of each month at 2:00 PM
If severe weather is present in the area, these tests will be cancelled.
⚠️ Important Reminder:
Rusk County activates outdoor warning sirens only for Tornado Warnings. These sirens are designed to alert those who are outdoors to seek shelter immediately.
🌪️ Tornado Safety Tips:
• Seek shelter immediately in a basement or lowest level of a sturdy building
• Stay away from windows, doors, and outside walls
• If no basement is available, go to an interior room (bathroom, closet, hallway)
• Protect your head and neck with your arms or a helmet
• Never attempt to outrun a tornado in a vehicle—seek sturdy shelter right away
• Have multiple ways to receive warnings, including a NOAA Weather Radio or mobile alerts
Preparedness saves lives. Take the time to review your emergency plans and ensure your family knows what to do when severe weather strikes.
