We ask that everyone refrain from burning until conditions improve across the district.

We've been a little busy the last couple of days, so we are wrapping up Fire Safety Week with a few quick tips for life around here. 🍂🔥

- Make us easy to find. If you call 911, can we find you? Make sure your address sign is visible from the road, reflective, and not hidden by brush. Keep your driveway wide and clear enough for a fire engine, with low branches trimmed back. 🏡

- Check before you head off. Run the blower for at least 4 minutes before starting a gas engine, and sniff for fumes. Fuel with the engine off and everyone off the boat. Make sure your marine-rated extinguisher is charged and easy to reach. 🚤

- Give heaters space. Keep space heaters 3 feet from anything that can burn, plug them straight into the wall, and never leave them running while you sleep or when you leave. 🔥

Smoke alarms are your first line of defense, so give them a test while you’re at it.

Thank you for making this week a success! As always, your friends at Central Crossing Fire are here if things go sideways, but if you put safety first, odds are you won’t need us.

Just like Slim Shady, we are back again...

As we continue with Fire Safety and Prevention Week, we have some tips for something that will certainly start to become more common over the next couple of months.

We all love how the trees look as they change from green to the reds, gold, and brown as we go through fall (even if the drought is trying to take that from us), but that also means the leaves are going to be falling soon.

Burning leaves and brush can be done safely, but when done incorrectly, it can lead to disasters.

Here are a few educational tips before you light up that pile:
- Burn in an area well away from any structures, tanks, trees, etc. The best you can do is a bare dirt surface with plenty of space around.
- Even if you don't think you need it, have water nearby. Tools like a rake can also help!
- Check the weather conditions, local ordinances, and check your local fire department (for example, us 😉 Central Crossing Fire) for any posts regarding to burn or not to burn.
- Double-check yourself — before you light the fire, make sure that you have taken all precautions possible.

As usual, your friends here at Central Crossing Fire are here to help if things go south, but if you emphasize safety and are prepared, then odds are that won't need us.

It is fire safety week! 🔥👨‍🚒🚒

While we love to help share information and crucial safety info year-around, the first week in October is marked as fire safety and prevention week.

While our crews are always ready to respond to any fire calls, the best way to prevent loss of life or property is to prevent fires from happening at all!

We are starting out with something simple, but you are likely reading this post on it. It is the wonderful device that you have in your hand right now. While it can do a lot of things, it can also create a hazard if managed correctly.

When phones are charging, it utilizes electricity, which is not a perfect transfer from your cord to your battery, and there is loss of electricity, many times in the form of heat, and and leaving a battery sitting at 100% charge for long periods under load stresses the battery, which can lead to excessive heat—especially if heat can't escape. It can create a fire hazard from the heat alone, or it could even explode!

So to prevent your phone going up in flames—or from becoming a flying projectile at 3:35 AM—make sure to:
- Set a charge limit if you phone has that feature
- Charge your phone up before you head to bed, and leave it unplugged overnight, so you can get that high quality rest that we all need.
- Always charge your device on a hard, stable surface like a table, counter, or desk. Charging on soft surfaces such as a couch or bed can trap heat and increase fire risk.

So make sure to charge your devices safely, we'd rather you keep your bed, your couch, your home, and most importantly, your life, intact.
