On Monday night Jan 05 we kicked off the new year of 2026 with the traditional Town Board’s ‘organizational meeting’. Congratulations first of all to our winning candidates Amber Brach Williams returning as Supervisor 🍾👏🏻, Margaret Larsen also returning as Town Councilwoman & Deputy Supervisor, and Ken Lewis continuing as Superintendent of Highways.

It was very kind of Ed Romaine and Greg Doroski to attend to offer their support to Shelter Island’s team of government leaders which includes now Liz Hanley as Town Councilwoman, along with current Councilmen A. Dickson and B. Dyett, and new Town Clerk Shelby Mundy.

We congratulate former Town Clerk Amber Wilson who will transition her talents and experience to the Highway Dept! Supervisor Brach-Williams expressed her excitement for what lies ahead, with lots to accomplish yet knowing it’s going to be done well. We look forward to seeing all the candidates staying committed to cooperative bi-partisan work, and Thank you for taking the long road with us Amber, Meg and Ken - we appreciate your serving us!

Stay tuned and stay involved everyone! 🙏🏼

Congrats Amber Brach-Williams, Meg Larsen and Ken Lewis!! 🥳❤️🔥
And thank you to all our supporters, family and friends who worked at 110% to help elect Tom Cronin and re-elect Amber Wilson. Our utmost respect and praise to both these wonderful people, their hardwork and focus. These races were close and so we encourage those residents who supported Tom and Amber to become vocal and involved and impart your concerns to your newly elected representatives so we can work together to preserve what we’ve been communicating throughout this campaign: the special part of Shelter Island - finding a balance to support the diversity of residents here. It’s not a time to fade away; rather it’s a time to dig right in. Thank you again for sticking through it with us.

In a re-match this year of the race for Shelter Island Town Supervisor two Novembers ago, Supervisor Amber Brach Williams again defeated Councilman Gordon Gooding. This time she took a victory lap much more handily than the squeaker in 2023. When the polls closed at the school at 9 p.m., the final t...

To the Shelter Island Community,

Once again, I find myself needing to clarify misinformation circulating online regarding the digitization of our town records—a project I initiated nearly two years ago to improve accessibility, transparency, and long-term preservation.

Let me be clear: digitization is actively underway. This process is meticulous and time-consuming, involving careful indexing, scanning, and organization of decades’ worth of documents. While the software platform is not yet ready to go live, that does not mean progress has stalled. On the contrary, foundational work continues daily behind the scenes.

I understand the desire for immediate results, but meaningful modernization takes time and care. I remain committed to delivering a system that serves our community well—not just quickly, but correctly.

If you have questions about this initiative or any aspect of our recordkeeping, I urge you to contact me directly. I welcome honest dialogue and am always happy to share updates. Please don’t rely on misleading social media posts that distort the truth and undermine the hard work being done.

Thank you for your continued trust and support.

-Amber Wilson, Town Clerk

URGENT STATEMENT FROM SIRC

The Shelter Island Republican Committee reached out to a representative from the State Board of Elections around approximately 12:00pm today.
The result of this conversation confirms what we already suspected : Candidate for Supervisor Gordon Gooding does not understand process and apparently hasn’t distanced himself as claimed.

The reader will recall a letter circulated by the Committee for New Leadership’s (a duly constituted NYS political committee) Treasurer who encouraged Mr. Gooding’s supporters to vote for Mr. Toner, who had already withdrawn from the race for health reasons, with the apparent goal of securing an appointed replacement. In our view, this represents a direct violation of New York State’s Fair Campaign Code.Such tactics undermine the integrity of Shelter Island’s democratic process.

Today’s phone conversation with the NYS Board of Elections revealed that Committee For New Leadership filed their paperwork on July 7th. The amended CFO2 form only lists Gordon Gooding and Michael Reiter , meaning that those are the only candidates this Committee is helping run for office. But most importantly Cathy A Kenny is still listed as Treasurer and no paperwork has been filed to change that in the last 9 days.

Mr. Gooding issued an email statement 10/23/25 saying “I have asked the individual responsible, Cathy Kenny, for her resignation immediately, and she will no longer be involved with my campaign in any capacity.”

No. Not exactly.

Also note that now Mr. Gooding’s ad show the payer as “Committee For New Leadership” running 10/30/25 with Mr Gooding’s name added as ‘candidate’, and Cathy Kenny’s name removed . He is not Treasurer. This is deceptive, as she is still responsible and therefore involved to this very day. Ignorance is no excuse in law.

This is a crisis of integrity— for all of Shelter Island. We are witnessing the erosion of Shelter Island’s civic integrity. The time for lies, excuses, and the dismissive “I didn’t know” defense is over. It insults the intelligence of every Islander.
