To the Shelter Island Community,
Once again, I find myself needing to clarify misinformation circulating online regarding the digitization of our town records—a project I initiated nearly two years ago to improve accessibility, transparency, and long-term preservation.
Let me be clear: digitization is actively underway. This process is meticulous and time-consuming, involving careful indexing, scanning, and organization of decades’ worth of documents. While the software platform is not yet ready to go live, that does not mean progress has stalled. On the contrary, foundational work continues daily behind the scenes.
I understand the desire for immediate results, but meaningful modernization takes time and care. I remain committed to delivering a system that serves our community well—not just quickly, but correctly.
If you have questions about this initiative or any aspect of our recordkeeping, I urge you to contact me directly. I welcome honest dialogue and am always happy to share updates. Please don’t rely on misleading social media posts that distort the truth and undermine the hard work being done.
Thank you for your continued trust and support.
