Mason County Noxious Weed Control

Mason County Noxious Weed Control Protects the Mason County, WA community and natural resources from harmful effects of noxious w**ds.

County Noxious W**d Control programs are responsible for identifying and working with landowners in controlling noxious w**ds within their counties. Currently, a State W**d List is designated by the Washington State Noxious W**d Control Board. Each County W**d Board has the flexibility to address local w**d control priorities. Developing an annual Mason County Noxious W**d List from the State Clas

s A and B designates and then choosing from the rest of the State B & C lists can most effectively target w**d invasions on a local level. By controlling noxious w**ds landowners protect life and health, improve habitat for fish and wildlife, maintain native plant communities and minimize the impacts to agriculture production. All state listed noxious w**ds are non-native plants that have been introduced to Washington through human actions. County field staff are available for community education programs and consultations with landowners to discuss w**d management options including measures to prevent the establishment of noxious w**ds on their own property.

πŸŒ²β›οΈ This week was our last English ivy removal volunteer event at Truman Glick Park. Huge thank you to all the w**d warriors that came out to help! We couldn't have done it without you!

English ivy is a Class C noxious w**d in Washington State. It is too widespread to be required for control in Mason County. We always encourage people to control it when possible. At Truman Glick Park we removed English ivy from the base of trees and pulled it from the ground to protect native shrubs and flowers.

Visit these websites for more information on English ivy's impacts, identification, and control options!

Online WSU Forest Stewardship Course!

Registration for WSU Extension Forestry's fall 2024 online course for southwest WA is open, but space is limited. The southwest WA course is geared toward those who have property in Clark, Cowlitz, Grays Harbor, Lewis, Mason, Pacific, Skamania, Thurston, and Wahkiakum counties.

Their flagship forestry course will teach you how to assess your trees, avoid insect and disease problems, attract wildlife, and take practical steps to keep your forest on track to provide enjoyment and even income for years to come. In this course you can develop your own Forest Stewardship Plan, which brings state recognition as a Stewardship Forest and may help otherwise qualifying landowners enroll in reduced property tax or conservation cost-share grant programs.

This live online course will be held 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday and Thursday evenings November 18 - December 16, 2024. The registration fee is $150 per household.

For more information and registration, visit: https://forestry.wsu.edu/sw/events/onlinecp_swwa24/
