🦅 New to the Nest!

Today’s featured Eagle is…Mr. Dinklage!

My name is Jacob Dinklage, and I am excited to be joining the OMS community this year as our Multilingual Learner Specialist!

While my primary role will be supporting our Multilingual Learners, I’m looking forward to getting to know students and families throughout the entire OMS community. This will be my first full-time K-12 position, but I’ve had the opportunity to teach in a variety of educational settings. I’ve taught English in Spain, worked as a teaching artist at the Olympia Family Theater, and substituted throughout the North Thurston School District.

I currently live in Olympia, where I’ve called home for the past 10 years, but I’m originally from Medford, Massachusetts, just outside of Boston. I live with my partner, Lex, our cat, Goose, and several fish tanks! Outside of school, I enjoy playing music, riding my bike, practicing and teaching martial arts, dancing, playing video games, reading sci-fi, and doing improv comedy.

Most of all, I love learning new things, and I’m excited to learn about the interests, cultures, experiences, and passions our students bring to OMS. I can’t wait to meet everyone and become part of this incredible community!

❤️ Please join us in giving him a warm OMS welcome in the comments!

🦅 Know the Flow Before You Go!

As we welcome families to Open House tonight from 5:00–6:30 PM, we are introducing our OMS arrival and dismissal traffic pattern.

Please follow this same traffic pattern tonight and beginning next Wednesday when students return to school:

🚗 Enter from the east side and form two lanes.
↔️ Zipper together as you approach the building.
➡️ Follow the marked exit and turn right only.

Thank you for helping us keep traffic moving safely and smoothly. We look forward to seeing our families tonight and welcoming our students back next week!

🦅 New to the Nest!

Today’s featured Eagle is…Mrs. Hubble!

My name is Makayla Hubble, and I am excited to be joining the OMS community this fall!

Although I’m new to OMS, I’ve been teaching in the Shelton School District since 2019 at Mountain View Elementary. I’m especially excited to see some familiar faces as many of my former students and their families make the transition to Olympic Middle School too!

I grew up right here in Shelton and am a proud Washington State University graduate. My husband and I have two young sons who keep us busy and entertained! When I’m not at school, you can find me camping, reading a good book, taking bike rides around the neighborhood, or watching Supercross with family and friends.

I am looking forward to getting to know our students, partnering with families, and becoming part of the incredible OMS community. I can’t wait to reconnect with some familiar faces, meet plenty of new ones, and get the school year started!

❤️ Please join us in giving her a warm OMS welcome in the comments!

🦅 New to the Nest!

Today’s featured Eagle is…Mr. Myers

My name is Danny Myers, and I am excited to be joining the OMS community as a 6th Grade Science teacher this school year!

Originally from Idaho, I graduated from Saint Martin’s University and have spent the past five years teaching in the Shelton School District. For four years, I worked as a STEM specialist at Bordeaux Elementary, and last year I had the opportunity to teach 1st grade. I’m excited to bring those experiences with me as I make the move to middle school!

My wife, Lexi, and I have three amazing kids—Grayer, Griffin, and Graham—who keep us busy and make every day an adventure. This summer, we’ve enjoyed exploring the beautiful Olympic National Forest on family hikes and spending time at the beach. When I’m not in the classroom or adventuring with my family, you can also find me on the baseball field coaching at Shelton High School.

I love helping students discover how science connects to the world around them, and I’m looking forward to an exciting year of learning, exploring, and growing together. I can’t wait to meet our students and families and become part of the incredible OMS community!

🦅 The Eagles are back in the nest!

Our OMS staff are back together! They were learning, collaborating, and preparing for an amazing year with our students!

Today, our teams dug into our School Improvement Plan priorities, shared ideas, and talked about the practices and systems that will help every student feel supported, connected, and successful.

We’re excited about the work ahead and even more excited to welcome our Eagles back to OMS!

💙🦅 Learning together. Preparing together. SOARing together.

🦅 New to the Nest!

Today’s featured Eagle is…Ms. Simpson

My name is Ky Simpson, and I am thrilled to be joining the OMS community as a 5th Grade Math teacher this school year!

While this will be my first year as a classroom teacher, I spent the past academic year student teaching with 4th graders while earning my Master of Education from the University of Washington Tacoma. During that experience, I had the opportunity to learn and put into practice teaching strategies that support student learning while honoring each student’s culture, identity, and experiences.

One of my biggest goals is to help every student develop a positive math identity. I believe every student is a mathematician, and I love helping students discover their own strengths, strategies, and confidence in math. I hope to create a classroom where students feel seen, heard, and supported while being challenged to think critically, take academic risks, learn from mistakes, and most importantly, find joy and have fun while learning!

My partner and I currently live in Gig Harbor with our three cats and our small dog, Nelson. When I’m not in the classroom, you might find me camping, paddle boarding, cheering on the Mariners, or trying out a new matcha shop. I also love science fiction, Pokémon, art, gardening, traveling, and music of just about any genre!

I am looking forward to getting to know our students, partnering with families, and becoming a part of the incredible OMS community. I can’t wait to begin what I am sure will be a fantastic school year together! Until then, enjoy the rest of your summer and I’ll see you soon!

❤️ Please join us in giving her a warm OMS welcome in the comments!
