Canine Chacha Hits the Ground Running

Fresh off her recent certification in narcotics detection, K9 Chacha has wasted no time putting her skills to work.

Earlier this week, K9 Chacha and her handler responded to assist deputies with a stolen vehicle investigation at Little Creek Casino. After being roused from her cozy slumber, Chacha conducted a free-air sniff and successfully alerted to the presence of narcotics. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the recovery of methamphetamine and other illicit narcotics.

Later in the week, Chacha and her handler responded to assist with a routine traffic stop for equipment violations. What began as a simple traffic stop quickly escalated when deputies recovered multiple fi****ms and arrested the driver for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. Chacha again alerted to the presence of narcotics within the vehicle, leading to the discovery of additional narcotics and drug paraphernalia.

We are proud of K9 Chacha’s early success and the valuable role she plays in helping keep our community safe. Great work, Chacha and handler!

K9 Caliber🐕

(K9 Caliber’s Birthday), from the Anderson and MCSO family:

On April 20th, 2026 MCSO K9 Caliber’s final chapter of his beautiful life closed. With his dearest friends and family around him, we said our goodbyes. K9 Caliber, “The Mason County Mascot,” Hide and Seek Champion, fearless, faithful, and loyal.

K9 Caliber served Mason County from 2017 to 2023, when his injuries outweighed the risk to keep him in an operational status - His retirement was not his choice, he’d never let you know he was hurting.

From 2023 to 2026, he faithfully served his family at home. K9 Caliber’s career was nothing short of remarkable: He had hundreds of deployments, countless captures, and found multiple missing endangered persons. K9 Caliber attended multiple school demonstrations, went to various car shows, numerous community meetings and events, and the only dog ever known to be on both a SWAT Team and a Spelling Bee Team. K9 Caliber was loved by all and even respected by those who tried to flee from him.

MCSO and SPD K9 teams were out training hard yesterday , focusing on obedience, apprehension, building searches, and tracking. These ongoing trainings help ensure our K9 teams maintain the high level of proficiency needed to protect and serve our communities.

The bond between handler and K9 is built through consistent training, trust, and teamwork, ensuring they are always prepared to respond when called upon. Great work by all the teams involved!

We would also like to congratulate K9 ChaCha on being recently certified. We’ll see you on the streets! 👏🐾

Today, K9 Chacha successfully earned her Narcotics Detection Certification! 🐾🐕

We are proud of the hard work, dedication, and teamwork demonstrated throughout training and certification. Keep an eye out for K9 Chacha working alongside her handler, Sgt. Anderson, in the community as they continue their mission to help keep our communities safe!
