Last night, members of Echo Hose Hook & Ladder Co. No. 1 attended the Bridgeport Area Retired Firefighters (BARF) Memorial Service to honor and remember the firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

We especially remember our own fallen member, Firefighter Daniel Wannagot, who died in the line of duty on March 15, 1991. His sacrifice and commitment to serving the citizens of Shelton will never be forgotten, and his legacy continues to live on within our department

Nate has been a dedicated member of Echo Hose Hook & Ladder Co. 1 since 2018 and through years of hard work, commitment and perseverance, he now also holds the title of Doctor!

Tonight, we proudly recognize and congratulate Fire Marshal and Life Honored Member James “Chic” Tortora on an incredible milestone, 50 years of dedicated service to the Echo Hose Hook & Ladder Co. 1 and the citizens of Shelton.

For five decades, Chic has demonstrated unwavering commitment, leadership, professionalism, and pride in the fire service. His dedication to protecting our community and mentoring generations of firefighters has left a lasting impact on this department and the City of Shelton.

Yesterday morning, Echo Hose Hook & Ladder Co. 1 members conducted an Ice & Cold Water Rescue drill focusing on cold water suit familiarization, rescue rope deployment, sling operations, and coordinated victim retrieval. Training in a controlled environment ensures our firefighters remain prepared, confident, and ready to respond safely and effectively when these types of emergencies arise.
