August 1, 2023 Ballot:

Reminder ballots are due Tuesday August 1, 2023, by 8 pm. We are asking to increase the number of elected fire commissioners from three to five members. With our district rapidly growing, a five-member board can provide better REPRESENTATION, ACCOUNTABILITY, & TRANSPARANCY for our ever-growing district.

If you have questions please feel free to reach out to Chief Jeff Snyder at 360-426-5533 ext. 5500 or via email at [email protected].

The August 1st, increase to a five-member board.

Ballot Q & A – July 12, 2023

Q: What is on the ballot?
The Board of Commissioners of Mason County Fire Protection District 5 (dba Central Mason Fire and EMS) currently consists of six members due to the merger of Mason County Fire Protection District No. 11 into Central Mason Fire and EMS. By law the number of commissioner positions will be automatically reduced from six to three over the next four years.
The law also allows a fire district board of commissioners to request voter approval to increase the size of the Board to five positions. The Board believes that increasing the size of the Board from three (3) to five (5) commissioners would provide better representation of all voters in the area in which Central Mason Fire and EMS provides fire protection and emergency medical services.
If the voters approve this Proposition, the Board of Commissioners Central Mason Fire and EMS will have five elected commissioners representing the voters, each of whom will serve six-year terms.

A: Why is it beneficial?
There are key factors that benefit citizens and the district by having a five-member board. With our district rapidly growing, a five-member board can provide better representation, accountability, and transparency for our ever-growing district population.

If you have questions please feel free to reach out to Chief Jeff Snyder at 360-426-5533 ext. 5500 or via email at [email protected].

This afternoon (May 20) around 3:15 pm, a Fire / EMS unit was traveling in the 11000 block of US HWY 101 (Sanderson Field) when they witnessed a parachutist land on the east side of the highway on top of a hill. The crew stopped to check on the parachutist and found the individual unresponsive and not breathing. Crews started life saving measures on the individual and called for additional help.

Unfortunately, the individual did not make it. The Mason County Sheriff’s office and the coroner’s office are investigating the incident. We send our deepest condolences to all those involved.

Mason County Fire District #11 was assisted by West Mason Fire, Central Mason Fire & EMS, Mason County Sheriff’s, and Washington State Patrol.
