🚑 “Wow, you guys seem busy!” 🚑

We often get asked how many calls we run — or hear from the community that it looks like we’re constantly on the move. You’re absolutely right… and we want to share the numbers with you.

📊 February 2026 Call Volume:
• Total Calls: 169
• 911 Calls: 121
• Transfers: 48
• Local 911 Calls: 98
• Out-of-Town Responses: 6
• Mutual Aid Assists: 17

That means 121 times in just one month, someone dialed 911 and trusted us to show up on what was likely one of the worst days of their life.

Now let’s zoom out:

📈 2025 Total Call Volume:
• Total Calls: 1,827
• 911 Calls: 1,280
• Transfers: 553
• Local 911 Calls: 941
• Out-of-Town Responses: 103
• Mutual Aid Assists: 230

That’s 1,827 responses in one year — 1,827 times our crews answered the call.

Behind every number is a patient, a family, a late night, a missed meal, a critical decision, and a team working together to provide the highest level of care possible.

💼 We’re Hiring!
Due to continued call volume and growth, Shenandoah Ambulance Service is currently looking for a Full-Time Paramedic to fill our final open position.

• Rotating schedule
• Two 24-hour shifts per week
• Only one 48-hour weekend per month

If you’re looking to join a busy, progressive service that truly makes an impact in its community, we would love to talk with you.

We are proud to serve this community. We are proud of our crews. And yes — we are busy. But that’s exactly why we’re here.

Thank you for your continued support of Shenandoah Ambulance Service. 💙🚑

Thank you, Pella!

Thank you, Pella!

We are thrilled to announce a major milestone in our mission to update our Emergency Medical Services! A heartfelt thank you to the Pella Rolscreen Foundation for their incredible $50,000 grant toward our latest ambulance remount.

What is a remount? Instead of buying an entirely new vehicle, we take the high-quality patient care "box" from our current ambulance and mount it onto a brand-new chassis. It gives our team a reliable, high-tech vehicle while being great stewards of our resources.

This generous grant provides the perfect kickoff to our broader EMS campaign. By helping us jumpstart this critical equipment piece, Pella is giving us incredible momentum as we move forward with our EMS Garage Facility project.

Thank you, Pella, for helping us put this vital piece of the puzzle in place and for supporting the future of our emergency services! Their commitment to investing in local safety is a testament to why they are such an exemplary partner in our community. We thank them for their leadership and for supporting the future of our emergency services.

A Vision for the Future of Our Crew and Our Community 🚑

Today, we are sharing a project that is very close to our hearts. As many of you know, our mission is to provide life-saving care to Shenandoah and our surrounding neighbors every single day. We take that responsibility seriously, but to keep providing the highest level of care, we need a home that matches the quality of the service we strive to deliver.

The SMC EMS Garage Facility project is a total game-changer for our team. Here is why this is such a big deal for us:

Better Response: A modern, dedicated garage keeps our ambulances and equipment in peak condition and ready to roll at a moment's notice.

A Place to Recharge: Our crew works long, high-stress shifts. Having updated living quarters means we can rest safely and stay sharp for the next emergency.

A Place to Teach: We are excited about the dedicated training room! It will allow us to host more CPR and BLS classes so you can learn how to save lives alongside us.

Growth: This facility will help us recruit and keep the best talent right here in our community.

Stories like Marcy Taylor’s (shared in the post below) are why we do what we do. We were there for Marcy in 2016, and we want to ensure we are here for your family for decades to come.

Please take a moment to read about the project and consider supporting our future. Every bit of support helps us stay ready for you.

I’m memory of one of the greatest guys we know! Blain Petersen, you you are the most selfless, hard working and passionate man in the whole world! It gives us peace knowing that you did pretty much every single thing in your bucket list (except one, is what I’m told), yet you still put everyone else around you first, including any stranger that needed help in any kind of emergency! From the Fire Department, Police Department, The Ambulance Service and the random State Patrol Officers that you have helped and served, you are GREATLY MISSED! We Shenandoah Fire Department, Shenandoah Police Department - Iowa and Shenandoah Ambulance Service gathered tonight in your honor to paint this tribute you you and your service! I hope this is what you had in mind for your “Parade”! Rest Easy Our Friend!
