Senate sends Griffee measure to expand health care worker investment fund eligibility to the Governor
Frankfort, Kentucky (March 27, 2026) –Earlier this week, the Senate passed legislation aimed at supporting the growth of essential health care services by a vote of 38-0. House Bill (HB) 266, sponsored by Representative Peyton Griffee of Mt. Washington, would include speech-language pathology and audiology licenses as eligible expenses in the health care worker investment fund, which was established during the 2023 Regular Session, creating a public-private scholarship fund available to eligible health care workers.
“This legislation is about providing our communities with access to the health care they need,” Griffee said. “HB 266 expands the health care worker investment fund to support underserved health care areas. The addition of speech pathology and audiology to this program reflects our commitment to a health care system that is responsive to the needs of our communities and provides services that give people the chance to live a full and fulfilling life.”
HB 266 would add speech language pathology and audiology licenses to the definition of eligible health care credentials in the statute governing the health care worker investment fund. The health care worker investment fund was established by HB 200 from the 2023 Regular Session to alleviate Kentucky’s health care worker shortage through public-private partnerships. During the 2025 Regular Session, the General Assembly expanded eligibility to physician assistants, dietitians, and nutritionists.
“Audiologists and speech pathologists provide essential care for thousands of Kentuckians,” Griffee added. “Our rural communities desperately need more of these professionals to ensure families can access their care close to home. HB 266 would incentivize and support the education and training of future audiologists and speech pathologists in a responsible and sustainable way to strengthen access in communities across the commonwealth.”
This measure will move on to the Governor for his consideration. For more information on HB 266, other legislative measures, or the 2026 Regular Session, please visit legislature.ky.gov
