Starting Monday, we begin our WHAS Crusade for Children collections. Neighborhoods will be filled with fire sirens to let you know we are coming.

Here is an interesting video on the 75 year history of the Federal Q siren, a fixture on most large fire apparatus. Lots of things have changed on fire apparatus, but not the Q siren.

Celebrate 75 years of the Federal Signal Q‑Siren®, the legendary mechanical fire truck siren. Explore its history, documentary film, and new Pathfinder PF400Q options.

Honoring Firefighter Ryan Druen

Today, Saturday, May 30th, our community will stand together to honor the life and service of Firefighter Ryan Druen as he makes his final journey home.

The procession is expected to depart Louisville at 1:00 p.m. and travel south on I-65 with an anticipated arrival at Brooks Funeral Home in Munfordville at approximately 2:21 p.m.

Estimated procession times:

* Brooks – 1:27 p.m.
* Shepherdsville – 1:33 p.m.
* Lebanon Junction – 1:41 p.m.
* Elizabethtown – 1:50 p.m.
* Glendale – 1:56 p.m.
* Sonora – 2:00 p.m.
* Upton – 2:04 p.m.
* Bonnieville – 2:12 p.m.
* Brooks Funeral Home (Munfordville) – 2:21 p.m.

Fire departments from across the region, including Louisville, Bullitt County, all Hardin County fire departments, Munfordville Fire Department, and many others, will be positioned on overpasses along the route with fire apparatus displaying their respect and support. Elizabethtown firefighters will be stationed at each Elizabethtown overpass, with the 91 and 94 overpasses reserved for EFD personnel, family, and friends.

The Elizabethtown Fire Department will be escorting the procession with multiple apparatus and personnel, while Shepherdsville Fire Department has graciously agreed to provide coverage for any emergency calls during this time.

Community members wishing to pay their respects are encouraged to do so from overpasses and other SAFE locations along the route. Please remember that safety is the top priority for everyone gathering to honor Ryan’s service and sacrifice.

Please keep Ryan’s family, friends, and fellow firefighters in your thoughts today as we join together to celebrate a life dedicated to serving others.

A fun way to end the school year for Brooks Elementary! Set up a big fire hose stream and let the kids soak themselves in 85 degree weather.

Stay safe and enjoy your summer!

Once again our friends at Troys Wrecker Service came thru by providing junk vehicles for us to use for training. A significant number of our calls for service are for motor vehicle collisions. When a person is trapped seconds matter. Because we can do hands on training, our skills are the best they can be. Troy’s is an “unsung hero” in saving lives that are in peril from a crash.

Congratulations and welcome aboard to new firefighters Vance Coble, David Fulner,, Shelby Hafley and Tyler Stark on their completing the Recruit Training Program! Many long hours were spent learning the skills and knowledge to begin their fire service journey. They will find as careers progress, learning never stops.

We did a quick program Tuesday May 26 to mark this milestone. We plan to do a more formal "Pinning Ceremony" where they wear their Class A uniforms and have badge presentations, in the very near future.

Upton is just down the road from us in Hardin County. Drivers: if you care to drive, please drive with care. It seems we are on I65 daily for either a fire or crash. Beside the obvious danger to responders, it takes a very long time to build a replacement fire apparatus. That’s not good for the community.
