Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training (ENJJPT)

The official page of the Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training Program, the only multinational manned and led flying training program in the world.

ughout the wing, and comprise the instructor and student pilot force. As an example of this totally-integrated structure, an American student pilot may have a Turkish instructor pilot, a Dutch flight commander, a Norwegian section commander, an Italian operations officer, and a German commander. ENJJPT is also unique with its four distinct training programs. In addition to Undergraduate Pilot Training, ENJJPT also conducts its own Pilot Instructor Training, Introduction to Fighter Fundamentals (IFF), and IFF Upgrade INstructor Pilot training. Up to 256 student pilots earn their wings at ENJJPT annually through a 55-week, three-phased training regimen. About 80 new instructor pilots are trained annually, with up to 150 pilots transitioning through IFF each year. A staff of more than 1,300 military, civilian and contract personnel support this training, employing nearly 200 T-6A and T-38C training aircraft. The benefits of the ENJJPT Program are many -- lower cost, a better training environment, enhanced standardization and interoperability, to name a few. Another important aspect of ENJJPT is the bond of frendship, respect and camaraderie developed among all participants. The ENJJPT students and instructors of today will be the leaders of the NATO air forces of tomorrow. Having trained together, they will be much better prepared to fight and win together when the need arises.

General Adrian L. Spain, commander of Air Combat Command, presented Capt. Dakota S. Bowden and Capt. Tyler P. Penkalski from the 80th Flying Training Wing with the Distinguished Flying Cross with "C" device in recognition of their extraordinary achievement while deployed in support of military operations in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility.

The Distinguished Flying Cross is one of the nation's highest aviation honors, awarded for heroism or extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight. The "C" device signifies the award was earned under combat conditions.

Spain also held an all call with members from both the 82nd Training Wing and 80th Flying Training Wing.

Aerospace Physiology is dedicated to preparing the most important component of every mission: the human in the aircraft. Through hypobaric chamber training, aircrew safely experience the onset of hypoxia to recognize their individual symptoms and build the confidence to respond effectively when seconds count.

Using the Spatial Disorientation Trainer (Barany Chair), aircrew experience firsthand how easily the body's senses can be deceived during instrument and night operations, reinforcing the importance of trusting cockpit instruments over misleading sensory cues.

By advancing the understanding of human performance in flight, Aerospace Physiologists enhance the safety, readiness, and performance of every aircrew member ensuring they are prepared to accomplish the mission safely and effectively.

ENJJPT was honored to host Royal Netherlands Air and Space Force Director of Operational Plans and Policy, Air Commodore Laurens-Jan Vijge, this past Friday.

During his visit, Air Commodore Vijge met with instructors and student pilots, providing mentorship and discussing the future of allied airpower. He also flew in the T-38 Talon alongside ENJJPT personnel.

The Netherlands has been a proud ENJJPT participant since 1973 and remains one of 14 NATO allies committed to the joint mission of training the next generation of fighter pilots. Together, we continue to strengthen interoperability, readiness, and the enduring partnerships that continuously shape NATO airpower. 🇺🇸🤝🇳🇱

On Saturday, August 1st, members of the 82nd Training Wing, 80th Flying Training Wing, and the German Air Force Tactical Training Command gathered to honor the memory of TSgt Heinz Jürgen Bartel and all Airmen who have given their lives in the line of duty. Together, we reflected on their selfless service, unwavering commitment to their nations, and enduring contributions to our Alliance.

As we approach 60 years of German Air Force pilot training at Sheppard Air Force Base, we remember those who came before us and whose sacrifices helped build the enduring partnership we celebrate today.

A special thank you to the Dayton family for preserving the memory of TSgt Heinz Jürgen Bartel and for graciously allowing us to gather on their property. Their continued stewardship of this memorial site helps ensure his legacy, and the legacy of all who have served with honor, will not be forgotten.

After nearly three decades of service to ENJJPT and the 80th Flying Training Wing, Mr. Joe Spann is preparing to retire. 🫡

A former U.S. Air Force pilot, instructor, and longtime civilian advisor, Mr. Spann has been a trusted source of continuity and expertise for generations of wing leadership, helping guide 17 Wing Commanders while shaping the future of pilot training through major modernization and infrastructure initiatives.

To honor his extraordinary legacy and lasting impact on the ENJJPT mission, the wing intends to dedicate the Wing Conference Room in his honor.

Thank you, Mr. Spann, for your unwavering commitment, leadership, and service to the Airmen, students, and international partners of ENJJPT. Your influence will be felt for years to come. ✈️

This past Friday, Colonel Ryan Serrill retired from the United States Air Force after 25 years of dedicated service.

On behalf of the ENJJPT family, we extend our sincere gratitude for his exceptional service, leadership, and unwavering commitment to the 80th Flying Training Wing. As Deputy Wing Commander, Col. Serrill's dedication, support, and pursuit of excellence helped uphold the ENJJPT standard and ensure the continued development of NATO's next generation of fighter pilots.

Throughout his career, Col. Serrill exemplified the professionalism, integrity, and selfless service that define the United States Air Force. Thank you for your service, Col. Serrill. We wish you and your family all the best as you begin this well-earned new chapter. Congratulations on an outstanding 25-year career!
