SPECIAL RECOGNITION AT SPOB77!
The Sherburne Pageant of Bands celebrated the contributions of Michael Hodge and Jon Armstrong during Saturday’s Awards Ceremony at the stadium.

Former Sherburne Fire Department Chief Hodge received the event’s prestigious “Person of the Day” Award. He served the Earlville Fire Department before joining the Sherburne Fire Department in 1989 and later spent a total of 13 years as Assistant Fire Chief and Fire Chief.

Hodge also worked as a well-respected self-contained breathing apparatus technician across New York State. A staple at the Sherburne Pageant of Bands, Hodge has worked as a pizza-vending volunteer and chaired the famous Parade Marshals, always instilling an atmosphere of fun and camaraderie.

Pageant officials also honored Armstrong with a special award for his dedication to the Sherburne Pageant of Bands, which celebrated its 77th year this past weekend.

“At a time when volunteerism is declining and bands across the country are working to rebuild, we remain committed to preserving this 77-year tradition for future generations,” said Dr. Antoinette Halliday, Interim Superintendent of the Sherburne-Earlville Central School District. “A vital part of that mission is honoring our past while continuing to move forward. This individual has played an important role in helping us maintain that connection.

“It is my pleasure to recognize Jon Armstrong for his dedication as our Pageant Historian,” she continued. “His knowledge of our history is remarkable. His passion for preserving the legacy of this event has helped ensure that its traditions are not forgotten.”

Sherburne Fire Department member and Band Pageant Chairperson Jansen Casscles presented both awards. Hodge received the traditional plaque/clock in recognition of his Person of the Day honor, and Armstrong received a custom-built cutting board, crafted from wood salvaged during the recent SECSD auditorium renovation project and repurposed by our students.
