🍂 FALL CONTRACTOR WARNING — PROTECT YOURSELF BEFORE YOU SIGN! 🏠🚧

As fall approaches, citizens may see contractors traveling through the area offering asphalt repair, seal coating, roofing, siding, concrete work, and other home-improvement services.

While many contractors are reputable, it’s important to be cautious of out-of-area or “storm-chasing” businesses that may move from community to community looking for quick jobs. Before handing over your hard-earned money, take a few minutes to do your homework:

✅ Verify Licensing
Check with the appropriate state and local licensing boards to confirm that the contractor is properly licensed and authorized to perform the work.

💵 Avoid Cash & Large Upfront Demands
Be cautious if a contractor insists on a large cash payment or demands the full cost upfront. Whenever possible, use a payment method that provides a record of the transaction, and don’t pay the full amount until the work is completed and inspected.

📍 Check Physical Credentials
Make sure the company has a permanent, verifiable business address. A mobile phone number, vehicle, or social media page alone should not be considered proof of an established local business.

📄 Get Everything in Writing
Before work begins, get a written estimate or contract that clearly spells out the scope of work, total cost, materials, warranties, and payment terms.

🚨 Trust Your Instincts
If someone pressures you to make a quick decision because “the crew is only here for a few days” or offers a deal that seems too good to be true, take a step back and verify the company first.

A few minutes of research now could save you hundreds—or even thousands—of dollars later.

👉 Slow down. Verify. Get it in writing. Protect your home and your wallet.

Description of Jamar Traffic Device

On September 2, 2026, the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of citizen concerns regarding a traffic device mentioned in an article titled “Utilizing the Jamar” published on Sheridan Media’s page and website on September 1, 2026. Th article was a summary of several topics discussed on Public Pulse by LT Doug Sanders and SRO Kody Lamb on August 27, 2026.

There has been some confusion around what information this device collects and if this is a “flock” camera, which has been a hot topic on various social media platforms. A flock camera records digital images of a vehicle, logs and runs license plates, and can essentially track movements of vehicles.

To be clear:

• This device is NOT a Flock camera.
• It does not record any identifiable data of drivers or license plates.
• The Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office has NO flock cameras anywhere in the county.
• The Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office has no plan to utilize “flock” cameras or anything similar.

Our traffic device is a Jamar Blackcat 2 purchased from Jamar Industries by our office in July of this year. This device is used by our agency to monitor vehicle speeds and track traffic volume. It does NOT capture any photos or take any video of a vehicle, nor does it log and/or run license plates.

This device is used by our office to compile data on county roadway(s) and is generally placed where we’ve received complaints from citizens about speeding vehicles or where we’re aware of concerns regarding speeding vehicles. The device can be placed at those locations and essentially provides our office with the number of vehicles driving by, the speed of the vehicles, the date/time of the vehicle traffic, and approximates the enforcement rating for the area, given the amount of speeding vehicles vs overall vehicle traffic during that timeframe.

Our deputies can then conduct coordinated traffic patrols in those areas at the day/times with when speeding vehicles are believed to be the most prevalent. Unfortunately, we cannot be everywhere at once and this device allows us to look at the data and determine the best time(s) to provide proactive patrols, but without being intrusive on our motoring public. Sheridan County residents, please be aware of the following scam (detailed in the shared Sheridan PD post). The Sheridan Police Department fielded multiple calls on this over the weekend (the scammer went by the alias name Sgt Wright). As of today, The Sheridan County Sheriff's office has fielded approximately 10 calls from a scammer (providing the alias name of Deputy Smith) that is calling regarding the same reason. Please do not send money if you receive this scam. If you are a victim of the scam, please contact the Sheridan County Sheriff's Office at 307-672-3455.

We extend our thoughts, prayers, and unwavering support to the Carbon County Sheriff's Office and the family of the deputy who was critically injured in the line of duty yesterday afternoon near Baggs, WY.

Yesterday's violent encounter serves as a stark and sobering reminder of the profound dangers law enforcement officers willingly face every single day to protect the citizens of Wyoming. When one of our brothers or sisters in blue is attacked, the impact is deeply felt across our entire state's peace officer family.

PRESS RELEASE: OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING

On Monday, June 8th, dispatchers with the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a man with a gun in Baggs, located in southwestern Carbon County.

The subject opened fire on the initial responding deputy, striking him several times.

The suspect fled the scene in a small truck. Additional responding deputies and troopers with the Wyoming Highway Patrol engaged in a pursuit with the suspect vehicle on Highway 789 north of Baggs. The suspect opened fire on law enforcement again before driving off the highway and coming to a stop. The suspect was declared deceased at the scene.

The wounded deputy was transported to a medical facility in Colorado by Intermountain Air Ambulance.

Additional units from agencies across the state responded to assist.

The investigation is ongoing and being conducted by the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation.

Hunter Education Internet Completion Courses Available:

The Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office, and its team of instructors, will be hosting two separate Hunter Education Internet Completion Courses on Saturday, June, 27th, 2026 and Friday, August 7th, 2026 at the Sheridan County Extension of UW Watt Agricultural Building from 8am-2pm.

• Students must be at least 10 years old to participate in this course. This course is fast-paced and ideal for those who are familiar with fi****ms, busy shift workers and individuals familiar with fi****ms.
• Students 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to the class.
o Parents or guardians are encouraged to stay and participate in the class.
o Registration is not needed for anyone auditing the class.
• Students must have completed PART 1 of the hybrid course at www.hunter-ed.com/wyoming before coming to the Internet Completion Course.
• You must bring your certificate of completion from www.hunter-ed.com/wyoming to gain entry to the class.
• Please bring:
o Pen or pencil for taking notes. You will need a pencil for the test.
o A water bottle, snacks, drinks and a lunch if desired.
o DO NOT bring am******on or fi****ms.
• Please arrive early to verify your registration information.
• You must demonstrate safe fi***rm handling skills and pass a 50-question multiple-choice test with 80% to earn your legal certification.
