Montcalm County Emergency Services (4/11/2020 8:00 pm)
The National Weather Service is predicting a strong storm late Sunday night and into Monday. They are predicting a storm very similar to the one around Thanksgiving that knocked everyone's power out and flooded everything. Up to 60 MPH winds are possible and up to 3 inches of rain is possible. We are in Michigan, so no wind and no rain is also possible. But please prepare for a strong storm during the day tomorrow. Please secure anything the wind might affect, and make sure alternative power sources are ready to go. Hoarding toilet paper will not be necessary.
Eric Smith, Director
Emergency Management Office
The Statewide Tornado Siren Test scheduled for TODAY will NOT occur in Montcalm County due to the COVID-19 situation in order to negate any possible confusion .
Montcalm County Fire Association
Due to the COVID-19 health issue, the State Fire Marshal's Office has temporarily suspended all firefighter training courses including the Montcalm County Fire Academy 2020, until April 6th, 2020. This move was made to comply with health and government officials efforts to reduce the spread of Coronavirus and for the safety and well-being of the public. The Association has opted NOT to implement an Internet-based (on line) lecture program at this time. We feel the face-to-face interaction is a more effective way to teach the students and provides a better learning environment, especially when it comes to firefighting and their safety.
**DUE TO THE RECENT HEALTH CONCERNS, THIS PROGRAM HAS BEEN CANCELED AND WILL BE RESCHEDULED FOR LATER IN THE FALL.**
TRAINING OPPORTUNITY - Farm Safety on March 23rd at Montcalm Area Career Center. See the details below.
Montcalm County Fire Association's cover photo
In speaking with the folks at The Links, they have made even more improvements to the course and facilities. Should be another GREAT event for the Fire Association to help raise money for equipment and training. EVERYONE is welcome to play and enjoy a worthwhile cause and spend some fun in the sun swinging and swinging again!!!
Gather your friends, neighbors and co-workers and register your team today!!
GOLF ANYONE?!?! Or how about some good outdoor fun with friends?!?!
Here is the Team Registration Form and the details of our upcoming Golf Scramble to benefit Montcalm County Fire Departments hosted by the Honor Guard.
Any questions, or if you or your business would like to sponsor a hole, please contact Capt. Steve VanHolstyn at (616) 835-3243 or [email protected].
This list gets longer, yet the sacrifices are even greater.
We continue to Remember the Fallen for the dedication and honor to the Montcalm County Fire Service. These members passed away in the month of March in the year listed. Any additions or corrections would be appreciated.

Not an easy battle to fight based on the mere size of the structures and the fire load. Nice teamwork and great work in staying safe and going home at the end.
Firefighters from 12 area fire departments assisted at the scene of the LKQ & Keystone Automotive complex fire Saturday night. The call came in to firefighters just before 10:30pm and when crews started arriving, the fire had consumed a large portion of the buildings. With the wind and nature of the contents (plastics) in the structures, it was too much to try and contain. In the interest of safety, the operation was fought defensively; no injuries were reported.
Our department is sadden for the devastation and loss LKQ & Keystone are experiencing as a business and as a family, especially among the holidays: our thoughts are with the employees and their families.
We are always thankful for our Brothers and Sisters who sacrifice to stand at the ready to assist us when we need it. Thank you , again, Belding Fire, Belvidere Fire, Crystal Fire, Greenville Public Safety, Lakeview Fire, Maple Valley Fire, Oakfield Fire, Sheridan Fire, Spencer Fire and Stanton Fire. Also to Montcalm County Emergency Services, Montcalm County Emergency Management, the Michigan State Police, Montcalm County Sheriff's Office, Montcalm County Central Dispatch, the Road Commission of Montcalm, DTE and Consumers Energy, Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, Energy (DEQ), and the list goes on.
We would like to extended a huge THANK YOU to everyone who provided assistance to the fire crews who brought water, coffee, energy drinks, donuts, cookies, sandwiches, pizza, nutritional snacks, apples, porta-johns, and of course all the prayers and words of appreciation. Those gestures mean more than you know.
The Michigan State Police have been called in to assist in the investigation to the cause of the fire due to the significant loss sustained.
Please keep all of those that have been touched by this tragedy in your thoughts as they each begin to process this loss and move forward in their personal and professional lives.
Again, THANK YOU, for all of your support.
