Some exciting news for the residents and businesses in the Sheridan Fire District! Chief Tirevold made the final inspection of our new Engine 811 and it is getting its finishing touches. It is due to leave the factory in Holden, LA tomorrow morning! It should be delivered to the Firestation sometime Saturday May 2nd or Sunday May 3rd! After undertaking a couple months of loading equipment and training personnel, it will go into service this summer! This is a valuable addition to the department and the citizens of the district. We will update as we receive more information. Here’s a sneak peek!

Sheridan Fire was recently awarded a grant from the Dept of Natural Resources for fire projects. These grant opportunities help us provide the best possible service with the least impact to our taxpayers. With our new engine (pumper) scheduled for delivery between March and May of 2026, we have purchased the following equipment through this grant.
4 gas detection meter
Foam applicator and nozzle
1” Forestry hose
2” Structural hose
2.5” Structural hose
4 Nozzles
Battery Op Scene Lighting.
Sheridan FD continues to provide for today, while looking forward to tomorrow’s needs.

Special Thanks and shoutout to Firefighter Lucas Morales who recently built an American Flag using old discarded Fire Hose from Sheridan FD. The hose was taken out of service recently due to a failed pressure test. Lucas then donated the flag to the department. The Hose may not carry water any longer, but rest assured, due to the craftsmanship of Lucas, the hose will continue to serve our department, flying proudly over our apparatus bay!

Last year during 2024, Sheridan FD started the process of ordering a new Engine (Pumper) to replace our 1997 Pierce on the Front line. The process is a long one, and our new truck is not scheduled for delivery until May 2026. Planning ahead is essential. So during this wait time, we have applied for grants to help equip the new truck . At the end of February, we received notification from the State Fire Marshall that Sheridan was awarded $11,000 on the OSFM Small Equipment grant! This was used to purchase essential equipment for the new truck. Items purchased were Handlights, Axes, Haligan tools, sledge hammers, Safety Vests, Rescue Saw and Thermal Camera. We will continue to use all avenues to reduce costs to the district and provide the highest level of support for our staff and community.

“When No One’s Left to Come”

When grandmas sick, she grabs the phone and she calls 911,
The stress makes grandpas heart give out,
But no one’s left to come.

Dads been in an accident, below the waist he’s numb,
He couldn’t get to the hospital,
Cause no one’s left to come.

There’s a great big fire in the Smiths old barn,
We hope to save it some,
But there’s no red trucks or water there,
Cause no one’s left to come.

The weathers bad, tornado hits,
The house, it shudders some,
Next you know, your buried alive,
But no one’s left to come.

It takes a community, to make it work, it takes a special one,
When a family needs some extra help,
Will you be the one to come?

Volunteers are disappearing at an alarming rate. Your local communities need your help! Consider volunteering for your local Fire and EMS service. Your friends, your neighbors and your community are counting on you. Most departments will provide you with training and safety equipment. Advanced training is also available.
Inquire anywhere where they park those big shiny trucks! 🚒 🚑

Just a few stats from 2024 to share.
Sheridan Fire and EMS responded to 541 total calls for service in 2024.
(56 Fire response and 485 EMS response)
Our busiest day of the week was on Monday and our busiest month of the year was in July.
Each ambulance call averaged 1 hr and 6 minutes and each Fire response averaged 59 minutes.
Of the 56 Fire responses, 8 were for structure fires.
We also responded 18 times to requests for help from neighboring communities.
SFD would like to thank everyone for the support we receive from the community. Knowing you support us makes all the difference when tragedy strikes. Here’s to hoping for a safe and prosperous 2025 for everyone! 🫶
