Dear Neighbors,
It’s now been over a year since I was asked to participate on a committee to develop a thorough and comprehensive plan for reorganization between the Town of Sheridan and Adams Township. I was asked to be on the committee to be a voice of a newer Sheridan resident. In fact, I was the only one on the committee (aside from Dr. Mundy who chaired the committee), who isn’t a lifer. When my husband and I moved here, we were looking for somewhere affordable in Hamilton County. I know that’s a common occurrence for those of us who are newer here. I had only ever lived in larger cities, but I quickly found a home in this small town environment.
Whether you’ve lived here your whole life, you’ve moved out here to get away from the growth happening to the south, or moved here like me, because of affordability - this reorganization vote is about coming together as a community to make decisions about our future. To me, reorganization is about taking our destiny in our own hands. It’s about working together as a vibrant community. Reorganization is about neighbors who care about each other and the way of life in this corner of the county, making the important decisions for ourselves.
Sheridan and Adams Township are at a crossroad. Do we want to be swallowed up with uncontrolled growth? Or do we want to decide that our Sheridan community is special, unique, and is worth working to keep it. And it will take work. It will take neighbors coming together and being active participants in this place we get to call home. That’s one of the great things about living in a small community - if you want to, you can have an impact on the community where you live.
I may not have had the privilege of being from here, but I get to live here now, and I love this community. I have faith in the people who live here. I hope you have faith as well. We know growth is coming, but I believe that we as a community can make the best decisions as to how that growth will happen and how we can best grow without losing our unique personality. I think our community’s best days are ahead of it. I think we can honor this community’s rich heritage, while adding to it and not losing it. The best way to do that, is to vote YES! to Reorganization.
Tomorrow, I’ll be voting YES! To Reorganization. I will be placing my faith on this community! Please join me and vote YES!, too.
Sincerely,
Heidi Kienholz
