Good Evening, Sheridan,
I would like to address the recent Facebook post regarding an evidence bag that was found in the area.
During an arrest, an officer conducted a search of the suspect incident to arrest. Because the individual was being taken into custody, the officer needed to check for contraband and other items that could not be brought into the jail. During the search, the officer located several gummies. Although the gummies were below the legal limit and were not illegal to possess, they could not be accepted into the jail. The items were placed in an evidence bag for proper disposal.
We appreciate the citizen who took the time to pick up the items and dispose of them in the trash. However, we ask that anyone who discovers a similar item contact the Sheridan Police Department and provide the location where it was found. This allows our officers to respond and handle the item appropriately.
Please be advised that officers returned to the area minutes after realising the items had been left behind. Officers checked the surrounding area but were unable to locate it.
We appreciate our community members who take the time to bring concerns to our attention. Community awareness and communication help us work together to keep Sheridan safe.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Domestic Violence Awareness Month began in October 1981 as a national “Day of Unity” and was officially recognized by Congress in October 1989.

Domestic violence continues to affect millions of people across our country. Here are some important facts:

· Approximately 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men experience physical violence, emotional abuse, or stalking by an intimate partner during their lifetime.

· More than 10 million people in the United States experience physical abuse by an intimate partner each year.

· Women and young adults ages 18–34 face some of the highest rates of nonfatal intimate partner violence.

The Sheridan Police and Fire Departments proudly stand against domestic violence—not just in October, but every single day. We are committed to raising awareness, supporting survivors, and helping keep our community safe.

If you see something, say something. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, please know that help is available. If you are in immediate danger, call 911.

Throughout October, you will see our officers wearing purple ribbons on their vests in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. These ribbons represent our support for survivors, our commitment to awareness, and our dedication to ending domestic violence.

Sheridan Police Department Arrests Two Following Early-Morning Battery Investigation; Suspected Fully Automatic Fi***rm Seized
Sheridan, Indiana — October 5, 2026 — The Sheridan Police Department is investigating an early-morning physical altercation that resulted in the arrest of two Sheridan residents and the seizure of a fi***rm believed to have fully automatic firing capability.
At approximately 1:14 a.m. on October 5, 2026, officers were dispatched to the 100 block of S. California Street in Sheridan for a reported battery with injuries. Officers contacted an adult male victim who had sustained significant facial injuries, including a swollen and bleeding nose, as well as multiple abrasions and other injuries to his body.
The victim reported that he had initially gone to a residence in the 200 block of W. 2nd Street to speak with another individual. According to the victim, a physical altercation occurred at the residence. The victim further reported that a second physical altercation occurred a short time later in the area of 6th Street and Ohio Street, where he was allegedly grabbed from behind, lifted from the ground, slammed to the ground, and punched and headbutted.
Officers responded to the residence of Jonathan Morasco, 35, where they made contact with Morasco and another individual, Kiowa Trisler. Officers observed injuries on Morasco that were consistent with injuries that could have been sustained during the reported altercation.
Due to the circumstances of the investigation and the reported injuries, officers obtained a search warrant for the residence. After repeated announcements and attempts to contact the occupants were unsuccessful, the Sheridan Police Department's Special Response Team (SRT) was activated.
At approximately 5:13 a.m., SRT officers entered the residence to locate the involved individuals. Officers subsequently located Morasco and Trisler in a barn on the property. Both individuals complied with officers' commands and were taken into custody without further incident.
Morasco was arrested in connection with the reported battery. Trisler was also taken into custody following the investigation. Both individuals were transported to the Hamilton County Jail.
During the investigation, officers also developed probable cause to believe that a fi***rm was located inside the residence. A search warrant was obtained specifically authorizing officers to search a particular box located in the master bedroom.
During the subsequent search, officers located:
- A fi***rm appearing to be a MAC-10-style fi***rm
- Two magazines for the fi***rm
- An oil-filter-type device believed to have been modified for use as a suppressor
- A fi***rm with the serial number and model information removed from the receiver
The fi***rm and related items were seized and submitted into evidence in accordance with Sheridan Police Department policy.
A subsequent function check of the fi***rm indicated that it appears to have fully automatic firing capability. The fi***rm is being further evaluated as part of the ongoing investigation. Sheridan Police Department personnel have also consulted with the Bureau of Alcohol, To***co, Fi***rms and Explosives (ATF) and the Gun Crimes Task Force regarding the fi***rm and applicable federal and state laws.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges related to the fi***rm may be sought following further examination and consultation with the appropriate authorities.
All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
The Sheridan Police Department would like to thank the officers and assisting personnel who responded to this incident and helped safely resolve the situation.

Good morning, Sheridan,

I want to take a moment to give everyone some insight into the situation on Mulebarn Road and the surrounding areas.

I personally have been running radar and making traffic stops for drivers who are running the stop signs in these areas. I have also requested that our officers do the same on other shifts.

To date, we have made numerious of traffic stops in the areas of 226th Street, 216th Street, and Mulebarn Road, as well as 226th Street, 216th Street, and Lamong Road.

We have a lot of new residents and drivers in our area, and there are signs posted at these intersections reminding drivers that cross traffic does not stop.

I am going to make a separate Public Service Announcement (PSA) specifically addressing the fact that cross traffic does not stop. However, if people do not see and share these messages, they simply will not do much good on Facebook.

I want to assure you that we really do care about your safety.

I also spoke with Dustin Dixon of the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department recently. The Sheriff's Department has also been working traffic and making stops at the 216th Street and Mulebarn Road intersection.

Sheridan has increased in size, and so has our department. We now provide law enforcement services across an area extending from County Line Road to US 31 and from 216th Street to 296th Street.

I want to be clear: there is not an issue with our department taking care of this area. However, no one—not the Sheridan Police Department, not the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department, and not any other law enforcement agency—can be everywhere at the same time.

I encourage the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department to work traffic wherever they feel it is needed. Contrary to what some may believe, we work together with the Sheriff's Department and other agencies to help keep you as safe as possible.

At the same time, we must remember that as drivers in the State of Indiana, it is the responsibility of each individual driver to operate their vehicle in a safe and lawful manner. Every driver is responsible for paying attention to the roadway, obeying posted signs, and coming to a complete stop when required.

Over the next several weeks, I will make a more concerted effort to patrol these areas, and I will work harder to assist with these concerns. The entire department will continue doing the same.

Please slow down, pay attention, and do not run the stop signs in these areas.

The fines can be costly, and at this point, warnings are not working.

Our goal is not to write tickets. Our goal is to keep people safe and prevent someone from getting seriously hurt.

Everyone’s safety is our top priority. Please beware that Main Street will not be closed down due to it being a detour road for the SR 47 Project. We will have police officers stationed on Main Street by the Monon trail to make sure every ghost and goblin crosses the street safely for Main Street's Trunk r' Treat from 6pm to 7pm.

🚨 SCAM ALERT 🚨
Sheridan Area Rental Scam

The Sheridan Police Department would like to take this opportunity to inform residents about a rental scam currently occurring in the Sheridan area.

Please remember that, although completing applications and conducting business online is convenient, you should never provide your personal information to someone unless you are certain they are legitimate and trustworthy.

If you are asked to complete a rental application, do not send the application or your personal information over the internet to an individual or company that you have not independently verified.

If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Take the time to think things through and verify the information before sending money or personal information.

Recently, scammers have been advertising rental properties in the Sheridan area without having any ownership or contractual interest in the properties. We have received reports of at least two families who paid multiple months of rent in advance, along with security deposits, only to discover that they had been scammed.

In some cases, the victims have actually moved into the home and begun settling in, only to have the legitimate property owner arrive and discover that someone is occupying the residence without authorization.

The victims may then be required to leave the property through the eviction process, potentially within a month or less, while also facing significant difficulty recovering the money they paid to the scammer.

Please use caution when conducting business with individuals over the internet.

If someone asks you to complete a rental application, verify that the person actually owns the property or is legally authorized to rent it before providing personal information or sending money.

Consider contacting the property owner, property management company, or county records office independently using contact information you locate yourself.

DO NOT rely solely on information provided to you by the person advertising the property.

PROTECT YOURSELF
Verify who actually owns the property.
Verify that the person offering the property for rent is authorized to do so.
Be cautious of requests for money through electronic payment services, wire transfers, gift cards, or cryptocurrency.
Do not send copies of your driver's license, Social Security information, banking information, or other sensitive personal information until you have verified the transaction.
Be especially cautious when the rental price is significantly lower than comparable properties.
If you cannot personally view the property or verify the owner, stop and investigate before sending money.

If you believe you have encountered a rental scam, contact the Sheridan Police Department and report the incident.

When dealing with someone you meet online, USE CAUTION and take the time to verify who you are dealing with before providing money or personal information.
