MAYDAY! MAYDAY! MAYDAY!

Five minutes ago, he was unconscious in a Level A suit inside a HazMat Exclusion Zone. What if the bell started going off while he was still in there? How do you get air to someone in a Level A suit while still in an Encapsulation IDLH? And while he has now been extricated, he is still unconscious; how do we perform Decon?

With the increase in HazMat calls we’ve seen over the last few weeks, these questions cannot be answered soon enough. Authored and designed by Master Instructor Dan Casner, the ‘MAYDAY In a HazMat Exclusion Zone’ course could not come at a better time and is only available at REST LLC.

This course is taught at your location, and we provide both Level A and Level B suits for training (and destruction!) as well as all consumable equipment.

Contact us to reserve this unique and extremely important course for your staff and region.

🚨Chemical Tank Explosion with Injuries🚨

No, not the tank in Garden Grove. This time it's a small town in Washington. Intital reports are saying the explosion was secondary to a chemical tank implosion. Trying to get info on the specific material. More to follow.

Stay safe,

Several injuries have been reported at a paper mill after a “major chemical explosion.”

What if your responders could train in the exact public venues they're sworn to protect — transit hubs, strategic ports, stadiums, university campuses, houses of worship — using real detection equipment, against scenarios scaled to true weaponized levels and with the PUBLIC PRESENT?

For the first time, they can.

Radiation Emergency Safety Tactics LLC (REST) delivers WMD/HazMat training of the same caliber as CTOS' T-1 Radiation Training Area and the CDP's COBRA Facility — directly to your agency, and even into the public spaces a closed federal range can't replicate.

Most agencies find our tuition for 15 of their personnel costs less than the OT and backfill (which the NDPC does not reimburse) required to send just 5 people away to a "free" federal course.

You provide the facility, we’ll provide the REST.

🚨LETHAL HAZMAT EVENT; FIRST RESPONDERS HOSPITALIZED🚨

While there is limited information at this time, reports of a deadly HazMat situation in Albuquerque NM overnight have been confirmed. First Responders encountered another clandestine lab with an unknown substance and three deceased people. Multiple First Responders became symptomatic after exposure to the material, with at least 18 requiring isolation and decontamination.

Two First Responders, including the first EMS units to arrive to the report of an overdose, were hospitalized overnight in serious condition. Additionally, several nurses from the University of New Mexico Medical Center were also affected. We wish these heroes our best and hope for a speedy recovery.

Ladies and Gentlemen, this is FIFTH ‘Clan Lab’ First Responders have encountered ‘by accident’ in the last five months! This one almost killed several of our finest.

I have said many times that our EMS Crews and First Receivers at the hospitals are woefully undertrained for events like this. Additionally, this event should cause EVERY hospital administrator to rethink the concept of ‘we will never allow contaminated people into our ER’. The truth is, patients will more than likely be in your ER before the event has been fully characterized.

Again, I don’t care if you hire us to train you or another company. Please, for the sake of your staff, just TRAIN for events like this. It was Albuquerque this time. Is your region next?

New Mexico authorities say three people are dead and more than a dozen first responders were assessed for possible exposure to an unidentified substance after being called to a rural home for a suspected drug overdose.

☢️Orphaned Radioactive Sources☢️
The Threat Nobody Talks About

Every year, radioactive sources go missing in the United States. They end up in scrap yards, recycling centers, and sometimes dumpsters. When a first responder gets that call, the clock is already ticking.

The Goiania incident in Brazil. The Fleurus accident in Belgium. The Harborview Medical Center incident in Seattle. These aren’t ancient history — they’re lessons that most agencies have never integrated into their training.

REST LLC incorporates real-world case studies into every course we teach. Because understanding what went wrong somewhere else is the best way to get it right when it’s your turn.

🎉The reward…

Starting a small business from scratch is one of the hardest things anyone can do. But when deciding to create one with a mission of training and exercising First Responders, it adds an extra layer of difficulty, and more importantly, risk. You now have both clients, the agency that hires you, and unknown customers, the public that agency serves.

The ‘risk’ isn’t going out of business for these companies, but ensuring your curriculum and the Team you have handpicked delivers a message that makes the whole community safer. There are no warranties on Public Safety Training; your product either works, or there is a catastrophic loss of life. Those are the only two possibilities.

Last week, two of my Instructors, Dan Casner and Christine Housley, provided a Hazardous Materials Incident Commander (HMIC) course to the First Responders of SPARTANBURG COUNTY in South Carolina. They did such a good job that REST was provided a Letter of Recommendation from the County. And while that is always great to hear, it does not prove the success of the product you provided.

Yesterday, one week after the course ended, Spartanburg County’s First Responders were faced with an extremely dangerous leak of a highly unstable flammable chemical from a rail car. These amazing men and women, responding to an incident that truly placed their lives in danger, took a leap of faith by implementing the ‘new way of doing things’ they had just learned from REST. Here is a partial transcript of a text message we received from one of the Chief Officers in charge of this scene last night:

‘HazMat Team has been out since 1300 with another rail car venting. The HMIC training was implemented with a Safety Officer and HazMat Safety Officer and all other positions filled by those who attended your class. This was number five in the last two years, and it could not have been executed better. Thank you! You have made a significant impact on our operations and our lives. We all get to go home.’

Wow...

Full credit for this success goes to my Instructors and to the First Responders of Spartanburg County for being open-minded and willing to learn. The real winners here? The residents and workers of Spartanburg County who are now safer thanks to the heroes that are ready to protect you 24/7. For any members of the Spartanburg region who may read this, thank your First Responders for literally driving up to something they knew could take their lives!

And as a small business owner, all of the debt, uncertainty, fear and struggle was instantly worth it from that one message. In other words, the reward.

Stay safe and thank your heroes,

💡We do things a bit different at REST

Our company motto is ‘Train Like You Play’. We don’t skimp on supplies, cut corners, ask you to use your imagination, require injects to move the training forward, keep your gear dry, require the use of pictures, utilize fake scenarios or get limited by regulatory hurdles.

You will get wet. You will go on air and sweat. You will hesitate when you see Nerve agent on your detection equipment. You will shudder when you realize the radioactive material on the person you were putting through Decon is now on you. You will encounter operational clandestine laboratories. You will get contaminated. Your Decon pools will be three different colors when you’re done.

You will follow in the footsteps of your Brothers and Sisters in events they had to endure and learn those same lessons.

You will work as a Team. You will remember.

🎉 Another Satisfied Customer! 🎉

REST just wrapped up our HazMat Incident Commander course for Spartanburg, SC, and it could not have gone better! A huge 'Thank You' to the Spartanburg staff for their hospitality and their trust in us.

Our curriculum is on the cutting edge of HazMat operations, where we are placing more emphasis on the decision making of the first-in Company Officer vs the Chief Officers. Much like the hard lessons Law Enforcement learned from early active shooter events, where the training was to set a perimeter and wait for SWAT, waiting for a higher rank or discipline simply does not work. The incident not only gets worse by waiting, and you may miss the opportunity to improve the conditions by acting decisively before the Chief Officer arrives.

If you would like to learn more about our this course or others in our roster, please reach out to us via the ‘Contact Us’ page on our website www.restllc.us, email us directly at [email protected], or give us a call at 619-540-5314.
