🚩 RED FLAG WARNING — SHERIDAN COUNTY

🔥 FIRE RESTRICTIONS ARE STILL IN EFFECT FOR SHERIDAN COUNTY!

The US National Weather Service Billings Montana warns that dry air, unseasonably warm temperatures, and strong winds will create conditions for erratic fire behavior and make new or existing fires difficult to control.

🌬️ Southwest winds 20–30 mph, gusting up to 45 mph.
↪️ A cold front arrives late afternoon into early evening, shifting winds to the northwest. Gusts up to 45 mph will continue through late Friday night.
💧 Humidity: 15–25%
🌡️ Temperatures: 75–85°F

Postpone outdoor burning and activities that could create sparks. Secure trailer chains, keep vehicles off dry grass, and follow local fire restrictions.

Stay alert and help prevent wildfires. Call 911 if smoke is seen.

🏔️ HUNTERS: BE READY FOR MOUNTAIN SNOW

10/21: The US National Weather Service Billings Montana forecasts a change from warm, dry weather to mountain snow and gusty winds heading into the weekend.

Accumulating snow is possible in the Bighorns, mainly Friday night into Saturday morning, October 23–24. Wind gusts of 30–50 mph are possible Friday and Friday night. Snow amounts remain uncertain, but hunters should prepare for cold, wet conditions, reduced visibility, and difficult travel.

🎒 Pack warm layers, waterproof gear, extra food and water, a headlamp, and emergency shelter—even for a day trip.
📍 Tell someone your route, camp location, and return time. Carry offline maps and a backup way to communicate.
🚙 Be prepared for snowy or muddy access roads. Have an exit plan and leave before conditions exceed your equipment or abilities.
📻 Carry a compatible radio set to Channel 3, privacy code 07—the Wyoming “307” Channel. Search and Rescue may use it to contact you during a search. It is NOT continuously monitored and does not replace 911. More details at https://hls.wyo.gov/307

📣 Staff Meeting Cancellation

The Sheridan County Board of County Commissioners’ staff meeting scheduled for Monday, October 26, 2026, has been canceled due to a lack of quorum.

The next staff meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2026.

10/11 at 0830 - All evacuation statuses have been lifted for the PK fire. Thanks to all the first responders, fire warden, emergency management, Road and Bridge crews, fairgrounds staff and citizens that worked hard to prevent the fire from spreading further and provided support for this fire. This will be our final update unless conditions change.

PK FIRE UPDATE - 10/10 - 0941 time:

Fire Crews fought the PK Fire throughout the night, with significant flare ups and rapid responses to counter. At this time, all evacuation zones and status remain the same as the overnight updates. Road closures and detours remain in place as well. Fire perimeters and acreage will be updated as more information becomes available.

Please keep monitoring https://perimetermap.com/sheridan-wy for evacuation zones in the Ready:Set:Go framework. We are not in the clear just yet. Fire crews continue to work this incident with strong support from our community. Please avoid the area and let the crews sustain the effort. Please pay attention to Sheridan County Sheriff's deputies who are out there in control of road access. The precipitation forecast for later this evening will help immensely with the fire control efforts.

10/9 at 4:50 PM: WILDFIRE west of BECKTON. Areas west of Bekcton are now in a READY Status. Prepare now in case conditions worsen. Gather medications, medical devices, phones and chargers, keys, wallet or ID, important documents, water, clothing, and supplies for pets or livestock. Plan transportation and where you will go. 🔥 GRASS FIRE WEST OF SHERIDAN

10/9: We are aware of the grass fire west of Sheridan, and emergency crews are responding.

There is no need to call 911 simply to report smoke or the visible fire in that area.

PLEASE DO NOT DRIVE TO THE AREA! Leave the roads clear for fire vehicles.
