Brownie Troop #6085 Volunteer Clean Up Day a Tremendous Success!!

Under the leadership of Lindsay Shaw, Brownie Troop Leader, the members of the Brownie Troop, parents, siblings and grand parents weathered the rain this morning at 8am at the Trail Head of the Sherman/Williamsville Bike/Hike Trail to clean up a section of the trail that turned out to be quite a project . . .

Wading through mud and very uneven terrain, digging out metal items, siding, asphalt shingles, batteries, tires and more . these young girls did an outstanding community service . . They nearly filled the 30 yard dumpster with material that was dumped in this area for more than 20 years . .

Please join us in CONGRATULATING! these girls, their parents, grand parents and siblings for making our trail experience that more enjoyable!!

And that was not all as if there was anything else . . . they also planted wildflower seed bombs to bring so more natural beauty to the trail . . Simply amazing . .

Congratulations Brownie Troop #6085!! Thank you for your Outstanding Work! Job very well done! Exceeded all expectations!!

Sherman
Sherman, Illinois is located north of Springfield, the capitol of Illinois. In 1858, four men, Virgil Hickox, Cornelius Flagg, Joseph Ledlie and David Sherman bought, surveyed and platted what is now called Sherman. Early settlers in Sherman were predominately Italian and involved in the coal mining industry. Sherman was incorporated as a village in 1959 with a population of 209 people. During the 1970’s, Sherman began to grow due to its close proximity to Springfield and Interstate 55. Sherman’s first growth was primarily residential. Sherman continues this growth pattern today and currently has a population of approximately 3,500 people. With this growth has come a surge of diverse service business expansion.

It’s great seeing all the people using our wonderful new recreation trail. I would like to please ask those with dogs to pick up after your dogs. It’s only March and already being littered with piles both big and small in the middle of the trail, in the rocks along the side of the trail and on the bridges. It’s simple common courtesy and it is starting to look terrible with all the piles. Help us keep the trail wonderful for all.

We hope you like the Christmas decorations at the 66 Memorial Rest Area. Huge thanks to Punkie Schrader, Sheila Rock Fitschen, and Deana Poe for decorating with me and to Judy Johnson Krell, Margaret Schneider, Robert Polistina, Helen E. Poe and Janet McLay for contributing some decorations. The outlet keeps tripping so not all of it is lit, but hoping that will be fixed soon.
