Miss Alice, Sherman VFD's Marine 7 is out on the lake assisting the Candlewood Lake Authority Marine Patrol and many of our mutal aid departments on the lake.
We would like to remind all boaters going out on Candlewood Lake for the fireworks tonight that normal boating traffic in the area of Danbury Bay will be disrupted.
No moor safe bay
The Marine Patrol will be setting up a safety zone just North of City Island in Danbury.
A safety lane will also be created along the eastern shore of Danbury Bay.
No vessels will be allowed to moor or anchor south of the safety zone or in the safety lane approximately 5 hours prior to and during the event.
In addition, no boats will be allowed to travel south of the safety zone into the display area approximately 2 hours prior to and during the event.
Boaters are reminded that after the display to proceed out of the viewing area at a speed less than 10 MPH.
What will cause the delay
The Marine Patrol in conjunction with the DEEP ECON Police will be stopping all boats entering Danbury Bay for a safety inspection. These inspections will only take a couple of minutes.
All boats must have on board one wearable Personal Floatation Device (Life Jacket) for each person on board.
Children under the age of 13 must wear their life jacket (PFD) at all times while the boat is under way.
In addition, all boats must have their required lights in working order.
Any boat found not having the required safety equipment will be turned away from the area and ordered back to shore to make the necessary repairs and will not be allowed to enter the area until these safety requirements are met.
Make no Wake
In addition, boaters are reminded, passing within 200 feet of a stationary law enforcement vessel you must go slowly so as not to leave a wake. This is also when boaters see flashing lights and hear sirens from law enforcement or a fire rescue vessel. You may resume regular speeds then the emergency vessel is more than 200 feet away.
