The Runyan Acres Fire Department took delivery of a (new to us) Fire Engine today. The engine was purchased from a Texas fire department who replaced this engine with a brand new pumper.

Some Background:

About a year ago RAFD decommissioned Engine 52 as it had reached an end to its service life, repairs exceeded useful life. In a very bad stroke of luck a few months later we lost Engine 53 to a catastrophic engine failure. The engine damage was evaluated and the decision was made by the Fire Department Board of Directors to not repair Engine 53 as again it's age and useful service life well exceeded reasonable costs.

A search was initiated nationally and our department located a suitable replacement in Texas. Negotiations were initiated and RAFD obtained a new pumper within the departments budget and one that should serve this community for many years to come.

We will host a traditional fire department ceremony called a "push in ceremony" in the near future in which the new Engine will formally be commissioned as "Engine 52". This ceremony will be open to the public. Stay tuned for details soon.

As for now, your RAFD team spent a busy day, polishing, rigging and equipping this critically important addition to the community.

🔥 HEAT SAFETY ALERT - RUNYAN ACRES FIRE-RESCUE 🔥

Please use extreme caution with outdoor activities this week — heat index is 113° and in the DANGEROUS range.

Our crews have already responded to several heat exhaustion calls — we don't want you to be next.

Stay hydrated, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors.

NEVER leave kids or pets in vehicles — interiors reach lethal temps in minutes.

Heat exhaustion and heat stroke are emergencies! Move the person to a cool/shaded location and call 911.

WE NEED YOUR HELP: We need NEW box fans or funds to purchase them. Several neighbors have no A/C — one home we responded to was 92° inside. If you can help, please message us here on Facebook or leave a comment below.

Stay well!
