We're back for another edition of "What We're Reading", and we're adding our new library assistant Rosa into the series! Looking for something to read this summer but aren't sure where to start? Give one of these books a shot!

PAULA PEKAR, Director:
"Mad Mabel" by Sally Hepworth -- A twist-filled, darkly funny mystery about the two kinds of people no one ever expects to be murderers: little girls and old ladies.
"Daffodil Hill" by Jake Keiser -- For anyone who feels stuck and believes that the greatest love story of all is the one we write with ourselves.

RACHAEL SCHROEDER, Assistant to Director:
"A Beast Slinks Towards Beijing" by Alice Evelyn Yang -- (e-book) A dark, magical realist saga that explores the effects of intergenerational trauma, colonialism, and fate
"Magic and Mischief at the Wayside Hotel" by Elizabeth Everett -- (e-book) When a magical hotel appears in the most unmagical of worlds, the last thing residents expect is to fall in love.

ROSA NEWBY, Library Assistant:
"The Astral Library" by Kate Quinn -- Have you ever wished you could live inside a book? Welcome to the Astral Library, where books are not just objects, but doors to new worlds, new lives, and new futures.

Looking for a meaningful, fun, and empowering summer activity for your daughter? đź’•

Three dedicated girls from Girl Scout Troop 9508 have been working hard to earn the prestigious Silver Award by creating something truly special for younger girls in our community. Their mission is centered around sisterhood, kindness, confidence, self-love, and teaching girls that their biggest cheerleader can be the girl standing beside them.

To complete their project, the girls are hosting a FREE Positivity Party for girls ages 4-10 at the Shiner Public Library on June 11th from 4:00-5:30 PM.

This event is designed to help young girls build confidence, make friends, express themselves creatively, and leave feeling encouraged and empowered. Girls attending will enjoy:
✨ Positive and uplifting activities
📚 Story time and books read by the girls
🎨 Fun art projects
🍿 Snacks and treats
đź’• A chance to connect, laugh, and celebrate girl power together

Not only will your daughter have an amazing time, but by attending she will also help these three hardworking girls achieve their Silver Award goal and make a positive impact in the community.

The event is FREE, but registration is requested so the girls can prepare supplies and snacks. Please register your child at this link:
