Post #17 of the American Legion was chartered in 1990. This post focuses on community service and support to veterans. Our events include an annual oratorical contest at the Nelson County High School. Selects and provides tuition for high school students to attends Boys and Girls State each year. Provides a Color Guard for local parades and events. Holds an annual flag retirement ceremony on Veter

an's Day in conjunction with local boy scouts. We plan and conduct the annual Nelson County Memorial Day ceremony. We coordinate placing over 500 flags on veteran gravesites in Nelson County and conduct honors at the cemetaries(6 in 2022) on Memorial Day.
