Earlier today, officers responded to a report of a person in need of mental‑health assistance who was possibly armed with a weapon/box cutter. After searching the area, officers located the individual near the President’s Building and safely made contact. The person cooperated and was evaluated by the Ayer/Shirley clinician and Shirley Ambulance, then transported to a local hospital for further care and a mental health evaluation.

The Lura A. White School was notified as a precaution. There was no threat to the public.
