41 Brush is done!

That’s right, after weeks of wanting, waiting, and working, we have completed the Brush truck. It is now in service and ready to roll at a moment's notice.

We have tried to be upfront on this project and explain the thoughts and variables that went into it. Therefore:
-Last year we decided that a major upgrade to our fleet was in order.
-We decided a new, purpose-built brush truck would best serve the community.
-We looked at new and used vehicles for purchase and decided we could do better than the $150,000-$280,000 price tags we were finding.
-An extensive search uncovered a leftover 2024 Ford F550 cab and chassis at Twin Pine Ford in Ephrata, PA. The truck had 44 miles on it and came with a full warranty.
-An equally extensive search revealed a local shop, Rays Truck and Auto, would be able to build us a custom bed for the truck in less time and for less money than we were being quoted elsewhere.
-Nicole from Finehand Signs did the vehicle lettering for us.
-We reused our skid unit (tank and pump with hose reel, roughly $20,000 new), hand tools, leaf blower, bladder bags, and gear.
-We up fitted the truck with a radio, lights, and siren in house.
-We estimate 145 total man hours for this build. 8 members contributed their own time and expertise for a total labor cost of $0.

All in we are estimating the truck will cost the department $78,520. Not all of the invoices have been finalized but the estimates should hold up. We effectively built a brand new truck for less than ½ the price of a stock one from a major manufacturer. In the process, we were able to reorganize three existing units and make them more streamlined and purpose driven for their tasks. We will have a new vehicle line-up on the web site soon.

Thank you all for the time you took to read this and the support you have given us. Please remember our efforts when you come to our Fall Festival on October 10th. Also, if this tickles your fancy, feel encouraged to stop down any Monday to meet us and fill out an application for membership.

-Sincerely, the members of Shohola Township Volunteer Fire and Rescue.

Brush Truck Update

For those following along, we were able to pick up our new brush truck today from Rays Truck and Auto in Milford. They built a custom bed and mounted our existing skid unit to the bed. This is a full custom build with all of the steel sourced from PA and the lights from a US manufacturer.
We think this build is coming along well and the quality is top notch. Now it is our turn to up fit the truck with a light bar, siren, and radio. Once we get those items installed we can focus on getting all of the appropriate equipment on the truck and then placing it in service.
We plan to have 41 Brush ready to roll within the next day or two and, subsequently, we will be restructuring our lineup. We will make our vehicles more purpose driven and better outfitted for their specific roles.
Thank you for the time you took to read this. More updates are to follow as well as a full vehicle line up when we are all done.

As we gear up for summer fun on the river, safety should always be the first thing on your mind, EVERY time.
Some things to remember are:
-Be aware of river conditions at all times. Even when the river looks calm, sudden steep drop-offs and swift currents pose hidden dangers.
-Even the best swimmers get fatigued easily.
-Always keep an eye out for family, friends and others while enjoying the river
-We strongly encourage the use of life jackets for everyone.
No one has drowned on the Delaware River who was wearing a properly fitted life jacket.
-Children 12 and under MUST wear a life jacket.
-Stay safe and have fun this summer!

🚨⚠️Traffic Alert⚠️ 🚨
Twin Lakes Road closed as of 8:15 pm on 5/28.

Twin Lakes Road is currently closed between Little Walker road and Knealing Road because of a tree on the power lines blocking the road. Please avoid that area and plan an alternate route.

Do not drive under, over, or through power lines. Even if they seem dead or otherwise non threatening, they can still have current in them and are capable of causing serious damage, injury, or worse.
