After an extraordinary 35-year career in the fire service, Deputy Fire Marshal Devon Wesenberg will retire this week.
Devon began his fire service journey in 1991 with the Bonney Lake Fire Department, where he first discovered his passion for serving others. In 1994, he joined the Shoreline Fire Department, beginning what would become more than three decades of dedicated service to the residents, businesses, and visitors of our community.
During his years on the line, Devon served in numerous roles, including Driver Engineer, Acting Lieutenant, BA Technician, Big Brother Program mentor, and CPR Instructor. His commitment to professional growth and operational excellence was evident throughout his career.
In 2013 after 19 years on the line, Devon transitioned into the Fire Marshal’s Office, where he was promoted to Deputy Fire Marshal. He continued to expand his expertise, earning certifications as Inspector I & II, Plans Reviewer, and IFSAC Fire Investigator. Devon continually invested in his professional development, attending a wide range of classes, trainings, and conferences that strengthened his technical skills and broadened his understanding of fire and life safety.
Devon played a pivotal role in ensuring the proper design and installation of fire and life safety systems across countless commercial and residential buildings. He completed thousands of inspections, investigated more than 200 fires, taught CPR to countless community members, and participated in numerous outreach programs, leaving a lasting impact on public safety and preparedness.
His dedication, professionalism, and steady presence have significantly contributed to the growth and success of the Shoreline Fire Department. His work will continue to protect and benefit others for years to come.
