There are many steps in the process of securing a career in Fire/EMS. Interviewing is a very important aspect of this process and can be intimidating to many individuals. King County Fire & EMS Agencies invite you to a free session aimed at improving interview skills with the goal of acing your Fire/EMS Service Interviews. We are offering mock interview panels and personalized feedback to individuals currently pursuing a career in Fire/EMS. Additional opportunities include information on the hiring process, best practices for interview day, networking with professional first responders, and connecting with other prospective Firefighter/EMTs. We encourage all people: of color, immigrants, refugees, women, LGBTQIA+, people with disabilities, and veterans to attend and help us better represent the communities we serve.

Outbuilding Structure Fire-

Around 3 a.m. this morning, we were dispatched to a detached garage fire in the 1800 block of NE 171st St. in Shoreline. The fire was approximately 20 feet from a residence.

Units arrived on scene at 2:46 a.m. to find the structure well involved, with multiple large cedar trees also on fire. Crews quickly extinguished the fire by 2:54 a.m., and prevented it from spreading to nearby structures.

There were no injuries to firefighters or residents.

The cause is undetermined.

🚒 Apartment Fire in Shoreline

At 04:01 this morning, our crews were dispatched to an apartment fire in the 17200 block of 12th Ave NE in Shoreline.

Upon arrival, crews found heavy fire showing from the two-story apartment building. The fire had extended into several second-floor units and into the attic.

Our crews made an aggressive interior attack getting the fire under control and making a strong stop.

Thankfully, all occupants evacuated safely, including their pets, and there were no reported injuries.

The cause is under investigation.

We extend our appreciation to Shawn White for his 31 years of service to the residents of Bothell, Kenmore, Lake Forest Park, Shoreline, Woodway and the surrounding cities. Shawn became a paramedic in 2003 and in 2013, he was promoted to Medical Services Officer.
We thank him for his service and wish him the very best in his retirement.

Crews responded today to a trench rescue in the 2300 block of NW 204th St.
Units arrived to find a 20’ x 30’ excavation approximately 15 feet deep with one patient who was awake, alert, and unable to self‑extricate due to pain from his injuries.
E164 and A164 stabilized and packaged the patient, L161 operated as the rigging team, and R151 assisted with the extraction and raise. The patient was safely removed and transferred to Medic 163 just 13 minutes after arrival and transported to Harborview Medical Center due to mechanism of the injury.
Every crew on scene worked strong and quick and showed exactly what we train so hard for. Strong communication, solid planning, and seamless integration between Engine, Ladder, and Rescue made for an efficient and safe operation.

Given the current weather conditions and high fire risk, a Stage 2 Burn Ban is now in place (August 7, 2026) until further notice.

Under a Stage 2 Burn Ban:
❌ No recreational campfires or fire pits
❌ No outdoor burning of any kind, including yard debris and brush

What’s still allowed?
✅ Charcoal grills (please use caution when disposing of charcoal remains)
✅ Propane fire tables and other gas-fueled cooking appliances.
✅ Self-contained wood pellet grills and cooking devices (only if placed on a concrete or other non-combustible surface)

Smoke from multiple wildfires across Washington, Oregon, and neighboring regions has continued to move into our area, causing unhealthy air quality throughout much of Western Washington.

Our firefighters have been working on many of these incidents over the past several weeks. Crews have recently returned from deployments in Central Oregon and Eastern Washington, while others continue to answer the call.

🚒 Current Shoreline Fire deployments:
• An engine with a crew of three Shoreline firefighters and one Bothell firefighter is deployed to Spokane.
• A crew of four Shoreline firefighters is assigned to the Little Giant Fire in Chelan County.

We are incredibly proud of our personnel who continue to protect communities both at home and across the region.

Protect yourself from wildfire smoke:
💨 Stay indoors with windows and doors closed when possible.
😷 Limit strenuous outdoor activity, especially if you have heart or lung conditions.
🌀 Use an air purifier or run your HVAC system with a clean filter.
👶 Check on children, older adults, and those with respiratory conditions.
