🔥 Don’t Let the Fun End in a Fire 🔥

Grilling season and backyard bonfires are in full swing, but one of the most common fire hazards this time of year is improperly discarded ashes and hot coals.

Those coals may look out, but they can stay hot enough to start a fire for hours — sometimes even days after the flames are gone.

âś… Play it safe:
• Let coals cool completely whenever possible
• Place ashes/coals in a metal container with a tight-fitting lid
• Keep the container outside and away from your home, deck, garage, or anything combustible
• Never dump ashes into plastic garbage cans, cardboard boxes, mulch, or landscaping
• If needed, carefully wet them down and stir to ensure everything is extinguished

A great night around the grill or fire pit shouldn’t end with flashing lights in the driveway. Enjoy the season safely; take a extra few minutes to dispose of ashes and coals properly and help keep your home — and your neighbors — protected. 🚒

Before Troy firefighters and paramedics arrive, there is a telecommunicator from WESCOM answering the call; gathering critical information, coordinating resources, and helping bring calm to what is often someone’s worst day.

It’s a job that requires professionalism, compassion, quick thinking, and the ability to stay calm when things are anything but.

If you’ve ever considered a career in public safety, this is a chance to make a real impact behind the headset.

WESCOM is currently hiring 911 Telecommunicators and looking for people who want to make a difference in the communities they serve, including ours.

đźš‘ Happy EMS Week! đźš‘

EMS Week was first established in 1974 by President Gerald R. Ford to honor Emergency Medical Services professionals and recognize the critical role they play in our communities.

This week, we celebrate the paramedics and EMTs who show up every day—on the toughest calls, during long nights, and when people need help the most.

Thank you to all EMS providers for your dedication, compassion, and commitment to serving others. We appreciate everything you do.

Nine years ago today, our friend and brother Lt. John Probst passed away suddenly while on vacation in Florida.

Even after all these years, his presence is still felt throughout Troy, and he remains deeply missed by so many. Brother John loved the job and truly embodied what it meant to be a firefighter — dedicated to the service, committed to his brothers and sisters, and always willing to answer the call. Duty, Pride, Tradition. Duty always first.

His impact on this department and the people around him has never been and will never be forgotten.

Continue to rest easy, Brother John.
You are loved, and you are missed. đźš’

No lightsabers. No backup from the fleet. Just training, teamwork, and doing the job.

Today is also International Firefighters’ Day, and it’s a reminder that behind every call is a firefighter ready to step in to protect the galaxy.

To the ones on shift, the ones coming off, and the ones already on a run—May the 4th be with you.

Stay safe. Get back. This is the way.

It is with great sadness that the Troy Fire Protection District announces the sudden passing of retired firefighter “Boston” Bill Burns earlier this week. Bill proudly served our community from 2010 until his retirement in 2013.

We all knew Bill as an avid fan of Boston sports teams, and he was truly a joy to work with. We extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who had the opportunity to serve alongside him.

Rest easy, brother. We’ll take it from here.
