This is not a survey for our library or one we are running. However, the librarians here can understand why the research is being conducted. If you have 2-3 minutes, it is a worthwhile survey for our profession. No personal information is collected.

It’s United for Libraries National Friends of Libraries Week!

Madeleine L’Engle was a lifelong supporter of libraries and librarians. She volunteered as a librarian at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City, where she was writer-in-residence for many years. In 1998, she received the American Library Association's Margaret A. Edwards Award for her lasting contribution to young adult literature.

Libraries have played an important role in keeping Madeleine’s books in the hands of readers.

Libraries have helped introduce generations of readers to Madeleine’s books. How many of you first discovered A Wrinkle in Time on a library shelf?

Madeleine’s granddaughter, Charlotte Jones Voiklis, is researching the relationship between library borrowing and book sales through George Washington University’s Publishing program, particularly how libraries sustain readership for older books.

If you use a public library, she’d love your help! Her anonymous survey about borrowing, reading, and book-buying habits takes just five minutes. You don’t need to have read Madeleine’s books to participate.

Please take the survey and share it with other library users!

And a special thank-you this week to the Friends groups and volunteers who do so much for their local libraries.
