All businesses need to foster healthy working environments and support their teams working together…

In the high-pressure world of leadership, we are often conditioned to believe that internal competition drives excellence. We pit colleagues against one another, thinking that a race for the top will spark innovation. But true greatness isn't found in outshining your peers; it’s found in lifting them up. The best teams don’t compete with each other—they complete each other.

When a team operates from a place of "completing" rather than "competing," the atmosphere shifts from one of suspicion to one of radical trust. In this environment, your strength covers my weakness, and my success is a victory for us both. It is the realization that we are a single organism working toward a shared purpose. An inspirational leader knows that their role is to orchestrate these different talents, ensuring every person feels seen, valued, and essential to the whole.

When we stop trying to be the "best on the team" and start trying to be "best for the team," we build a world-class organization that no competitor can touch.

RE: Show Low Sport & Event Center:

I keep hearing people say the City of Show Low Sports and Events Center has “just suddenly appeared” or that nobody knew anything about it.

That is simply not true.

This project has been discussed, planned, studied, and worked on for many years — close to 15 years in different stages. It has been tied to the Show Low Bluff development area, land agreements, future road planning, economic development discussions, and the long-term goal of bringing more year-round activity to our community.

The idea behind the Sports and Events Center is not just “a gym.” It is being planned as a multi-use facility that could support sports tournaments, community events, trade shows, conventions, concerts, meetings, walking/jogging, and other regional activities. The goal is to help bring people to Show Low during more than just our summer season and to support our local businesses, restaurants, hotels, shops, contractors, and service providers.

That does not mean people should not ask questions.

Of course residents should ask questions about the cost, funding, location, traffic, parking, operations, and long-term financial responsibility. Those are fair questions. A project of this size should be discussed openly, and people should pay attention.
But saying this came out of nowhere, or acting like the City has been hiding it, is misleading.

There have been public meetings, land discussions, budget discussions, planning discussions, site reviews, and council decisions over the years. The project has changed, the cost has changed, and the design is still being refined — but the concept itself is not new.

If you live inside the City of Show Low limits and care about where our city is headed, then get involved. Attend meetings. Read the agenda packets. Ask real questions. Learn the facts before spreading rumors or half-truths online.

It is okay to support the project.
It is okay to question the project.
It is okay to have concerns.

But let’s at least be honest about the fact that this has been a long-term planning effort, not something that magically appeared overnight.

This is very true…

This is very true…

True burnout is rarely the result of a long to-do list; it is the exhaustion of a soul that has spent too much time in survival mode. People don’t burn out simply from the work they do; they burn out from leaders who transform every office, meeting, and email into a battlefield.

When a workplace is defined by ego, psychological warfare, and the constant fear of making a mistake, the human spirit begins to wither. You cannot thrive in an environment where you are constantly bracing for impact. High-performing teams are not built on pressure and combat; they are nurtured through safety, empathy, and trust.

An inspirational leader understands that their primary responsibility is to be a shield for their people, not the source of their stress. By trading the "battlefield" for a sanctuary of support, we unlock the true potential of our teams. We move from mere survival to collective brilliance.

Let’s commit to being the leaders who provide peace, not conflict, and who value the person as much as the profit. Build a culture where your team can finally breathe and thrive.
