πŸͺΏ On June 15 - 19, 2026, the Arizona Game and Fish Department will be conducting Canada Goose capture and banding efforts. These efforts will take place at local lakes in the Pinetop and Show Low areas and a few of the local marshes. Department staff will be herding geese from the water and onto shore, where they will be temporarily placed into fenced corrals for processing and banding. Captured geese will be released unharmed after being marked with serially-numbered metal bands and some will be marked with black serially-numbered neck collars. The bands and collars are regularly used in waterfowl management and do not have adverse impacts on the marked geese or their ability to thrive. Captures are aimed at evaluating the growth and harvest of the resident urban Canada Goose population, in addition to evaluating migration patterns.

If members of the public observe Canada geese with colored neck collars or happen to harvest marked birds during the waterfowl hunting season, they are encouraged to report their sightings or harvest to the USGS Bird Banding Lab at https://reportband.gov. Their reported observations and harvest will help Department Biologists with data collection and possible management decisions.πŸͺΏ

When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors! 🌩️ The monsoon brings spectacular lightning shows to the Southwest, but lightning is deadly. No place outside is safe when a thunderstorm is nearby. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck. Wait 30 minutes after the last rumble before going back out.
