Happy Labor Day, Shreveport from Mayor Tom Arceneaux !

Today is a chance to recognize the people whose hard work keeps our city moving the people who build things, teach our children, care for our families, run our businesses, serve our customers, and show up every day to get the job done.

And I want to give a special thank you to the employees of the City of Shreveport. From our first responders and crews in the field to the men and women working behind the scenes, every one of you plays an important role in serving this city.

To everyone who works hard to make Shreveport a better place to live, work, and raise a family, thank you.

The LEAD economic development conference showed Louisiana is in it to win it and has a once-in-a-generation economic opportunity.

✅$260 billion in announced investment is reshaping the state’s economy.

✅Shreveport businesses can win far beyond the headline projects through construction, engineering, logistics, technology and supplier opportunities.

✅Young people can build high-wage careers here if we connect education and training to the industries now growing across the state.

✅Shreveport and Northwest Louisiana may be entering its third economic revolution: oil first, manufacturing second, and now data, digital infrastructure and AI.

✅Regional cooperation matters. Shreveport, Bossier and surrounding communities will capture more opportunity by competing together rather than against one another.

The announcements are important. The real test is how much of this opportunity reaches Louisiana businesses, workers and families.

🇺🇸 LABOR DAY HOLIDAY NOTICE | CITY OF SHREVEPORT

In observance of Labor Day, City of Shreveport offices will be closed Monday, September 7, 2026.

🗑️ Garbage Collection Schedule

There will be no garbage collection on Monday, September 7. The adjusted schedule is:

• Monday’s route → Tuesday, September 8
• Tuesday’s route → Wednesday, September 9
• Thursday’s route → No change
• Friday’s route → No change

🚫 No bulk collections will be scheduled during the holiday week. Heavy-item requests will be scheduled for a future collection day.

♻️ The Woolworth Road Regional Solid Waste Landfill Facility will remain OPEN Monday, September 7.

Please plan accordingly, and have a safe and enjoyable Labor Day! 🇺🇸

‼️ PLEASE SHARE‼️

Effective immediately through October 31, Southwestern Electric Power Company - SWEPCO is offering the following temporary support for existing residential customers:

✅Pausing required deposits
✅Waiving late payment fees for customers who contact SWEPCO for assistance
✅Expanding eligibility for the Average Monthly Payment (AMP) program to provide more predictable monthly bills

Customers may also qualify for payment arrangements, Neighbor-to-Neighbor grants, the federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), and other available resources.

We encourage customers who are concerned about paying their bill to contact SWEPCO as soon as possible. Customers should call 888-216-3523 to discuss payment and assistance options.
