The first two years of her judicial career were spent presiding over domestic cases, and since then, her years have been spent presiding over all of the drug related offenses within Caddo Parish. During her time on the Court, she has built close working relationships with a variety of people within the community, implementing new programs, policies and procedures, ultimately benefiting not only th
e citizens of Caddo Parish, but the community as a whole. Judge Waddell Garrett believes that community is important, but that community is entirely dependent upon the people therein. She believes that in order to keep our community strong, we have to work together, doing the best we can to help one another, using whatever resources we possess. Judge Waddell Garrett was born in Shreveport, raised in Southern Hills and graduated from Southwood High School. With the exception of the time that she spent away at school and establishing herself as a young lawyer, she has resided in Caddo Parish. She and her husband are now raising their family here. Judge Waddell Garrett feels that everyone is responsible for their own part, to maintain, and constantly improve, this community, not only for our own benefit, but for the benefit of our children. Judge Waddell Garrett believes that her personal and professional background has prepared her to serve this community as a honest, impartial and fair judge. As a child, her parents taught her the value of faith, family and honesty. As a teen, she learned the importance of friends, education and hard work. As a young adult, she learned the utility of persistence, balance and individuality. As a young attorney, she learned the worth of humility, compassion and how to manage a business. As a young mother, she learned the actual meaning of true exhaustion, true love, and true purpose. As a young judge, she learned that what is expected, is not always the path; that just because something is working, doesn't mean it cannot be improved; and that kindness really does move mountains. Judge Waddell Garrett's experiences have culminated to form a special skillset, allowing her to be a fair, impartial and effective judge, while employing empathy, practicality and compassion. She feels that it has been an honor and privilege to serve the citizens of Caddo Parish as a District Court Judge.
