Do you want to be a Firefighter for an evening? 🚒
A common misconception is that your local Shrewsbury Firefighters are paid and staff the station 24/7. They are not paid and they generally respond from home.
On October 3rd, we are inviting 10 selected residents to join us for an evening to learn what exactly goes into being one of these volunteers.
* No experience is required.
* We will not force you to apply at the end of the night.
* We generally want to share, with our neighbors, what it takes to get the trucks out the door.
* This is geared towards the residents we serve including Civic Leaders, Community Leaders, and those who are generally curious as to what the firefighters do. (if you read this far, that is You!)
Again, our firefighters are 100% volunteer (not paid) and we will cover the following topics throughout the evening:
* 911 Dispatch process
* What each truck does and its role at an emergency scene
* Introduction to firefighting turnout gear and putting it on
* Introduction to breathing air packs
* Explanation of vehicle rescue and the tools required
* Pull and advance charged fire hose.
* Hands on with rescue tools on a vehicle
* Review actual responses that used what has been learned throughout the evening.
