• On August 24th, an officer conducted a traffic stop on Watson Road on a vehicle displaying expired license plates. The officer learned the driver’s driving privileges were suspended by the great State of Missouri, and she did not carry vehicle insurance. On this day she learned about the traffic trifecta as she was arrested, and her car was shipped off to car jail.

• On August 24th, officers responded to the 5100 block of Exeter for a report of a light pole struck and the vehicle left the scene. An officer located the striking vehicle, a box truck, in the area, and learned the driver thought it was a good idea to pop a U-turn on the one-way street and “must have hit the pole”. His traffic summonses will let the judge have some input on that decision.

• On August 25th, officers responded to Walmart for a shoplifting, where they arrested an adult female for stealing earrings, new britches, and a (probably) delicious chai tea beverage. Y’all…there’s a cop standing at the front door. What are we doinggg?

• On August 25th, officers responded to Walmart for a shoplifting, where they arrested an adult female for stealing a big ol’ bottle of tequila. When she was stopped by that cop (yeah, the one she walked right past as she entered the front doors – that cop), he learned of her 9 active warrants as well. Sorry, no margarita’s today.

• On August 28th, an officer conducted a traffic stop on Watson Road on a vehicle displaying expired license plates. The officer learned the driver did not have a valid driver’s license and did not carry insurance on the vehicle. You know the drill from here.

• On August 28th, an officer conducted a traffic stop on Watson Road on a vehicle displaying expired license plates. The officer learned the driver did not have a valid driver’s license either. She did have insurance though, so there’s that.

In addition to these reports, between August 24th – August 30th, Shrewsbury officers also responded to 7 auto accidents, 3 disturbances, 4 suspicious activity calls, and 3 theft calls. We assisted the Fire Department with 30 calls, conducted 94 traffic stops, and conducted 16 traffic details in areas involving the return to school.

Heads up, Shrewsbury! 🚧

If your travels take you on Big Bend under the RR tracks and Greenwood Blvd this weekend, be sure to check out the information shared by our friends at the Maplewood Missouri Police Department and allow extra time for your commute. Stay safe and drive carefully! 🚔

Heads up, Maplewood!

Big Bend will be closed to traffic between Sunnen Drive and Oxford Boulevard while crews remove the existing bridges at Greenwood Boulevard and Pacific Avenue.

📅 Closure begins: Friday, August 28 at 10 PM
📅 Reopens: Monday, August 31 at 5 AM

Drivers should plan ahead and use Laclede Station Road and South Hanley Road as alternate routes.

Once Big Bend reopens Monday morning, traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction for the majority of bridge construction.

Please allow extra travel time and use caution when traveling through the area.

• On August 18th, officers responded to 7601 Watson Road after an employee learned that a man had apparently confused her Kia with a complimentary parting gift from the parking lot. Around 12:50 p.m., a coworker told the victim that someone was inside her car. Nothing says “bold life choice” like stealing a car in broad daylight while everyone is still there at work. When the victim got outside, the man was still inside the car but quickly abandoned his short-lived automotive career and fled on foot. Officers are reviewing surveillance footage from the parking lot and nearby businesses to help identify the suspect.

• On August 18th, a 21-year-old Maplewood man was arrested inside a vehicle he was rummaging through in the 4100 block of Exeter around 10:15 p.m., apparently initiating the bold and innovative “check every car door and see what happens” strategy. A resident saw the man pulling on car door handles and called the police. We love seeing Neighborhood Watch in action! When officers arrived, the man had laid down inside the vehicle, which is one way to demonstrate complete innocence and definitely not panic. He told police he was only looking for a place to sleep, however the car owner’s property in the suspect’s pockets did add a small credibility speed bump to that bedtime story. Also located in the vehicle was a semi-auto handgun that did not belong to the victim, had been reported stolen in St. Louis City, but was wedged under the driver’s seat and believed to have been hidden there by the suspect. Home surveillance footage from the area showed the suspect pulling on car door handles along the street, kindly saving everyone the trouble of wondering whether this was all just a big misunderstanding. The man was provided a warm place to sleep…. In jail. Sweet dreams, sir. The case is being reviewed by the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for felony charges.

• On August 21st, a man made a delayed police report, stating that his prescription medication was stolen from the center console of his vehicle on the Aldi’s parking lot on August 18th. He advised that on the day the medication was stolen, the windows on his vehicle were down because he had a dog inside. The old “my dog ate my homework” excuse was not the case in this instance.

• On August 21st, what was supposed to be a fun family outing at the bowling alley turned into a physical disturbance after two grown women in the party decided the evening needed more strikes and began swinging. Officers were told that the women had prior “beef” and previous altercations, which led to the bowling alley incident. The woman who threw the first punch left a few details out of her version of events, but surveillance cameras helpfully provided the director’s cut. Where’s the beef? Well, it’s no longer at the bowling alley. The Municipal Prosecutor will review the case and determine formal assault charges.

In addition to these reports, between August 17th – August 23rd, Shrewsbury officers also responded to 12 auto accidents, 3 disturbances, 7 suspicious activity calls, 4 property damage calls, and 5 theft calls. We assisted the Fire Department with 13 calls and conducted 74 traffic stops (which includes directed enforcement in problems areas).

On August 10th, an officer began the week with a bang locating the first Traffic Trifecta during a traffic stop on Shrewsbury Avenue on a vehicle displaying fake temp tags. The officer then learned the drive had no driver’s license and no vehicle insurance. You know the drill…. People jail. Car Jail.

On August 11th, an officer responded to the area of the 7300 block of Watson Road for a vehicle blocking the traffic lane. The officer located the vehicle with no plates and no driver. The vehicle was eventually towed.

On August 11th, we hosted another successful Shrewsbury Night Out at Wehner Park. Thank you to all our guests and the attendees that braved the insane heat. To the man we spoke to at the PD table who said he loved our Crime Reports and was considering speeding through town with no license plates, no drivers license, and no insurance just so he can make the crime report with his own Traffic Trifecta….No need. Consider this your shoutout, Sir! We appreciate you!

On August 13th, officers responded to Walmart for a shoplifting. Officers learned a man placed a Buzz Ball alcoholic cocktail in his pocket and left the store without paying. While investigating, the man told the officers he’d made a poor decision, as he had the money in his pocket that he could have used to pay for the item. Can’t argue with that one, ESPECIALLY when he had active warrants. Buzz kill. He was arrested.

On August 14th, officers were notified of a missing person from Kentucky, whose cell was pinging in Shrewsbury. With extensive investigation and assistance from the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police, the person was located safe at a medical facility.

On August 15th, officers received a delayed report of a vehicle crash-pedestrian struck, in which the driver left the scene without exchanging information. The pedestrian received minor injuries and refused medical treatment. The driver has been identified and is being sought.

REMINDER: Schools start over the next couple weeks! Traffic will be increasing, so give yourself extra time and use extra caution when driving. Stop means stop, not slow down. Speed limits DO exist. No Right Turn means just that…. For everyone. Don’t worry, if you forget, our officers will be there to remind you. Drive Carefully. Protect Our Kids!

We are proud to support Mayor Odenwald’s message about keeping our children and our community safe as we begin a new school year. With more school buses, children walking and biking, and increased traffic around our schools and neighborhoods, we ask everyone to slow down, stay alert, put the phone away, and watch carefully for pedestrians and students crossing the street. Never pass a stopped school bus, and please give yourself a little extra time to get where you are going. Our goal is to keep all children safe! We will continue to have a visible presence and enforce traffic laws throughout Shrewsbury, especially areas with pedestrians. Thank you to our residents for doing your part and helping us keep Shrewsbury a safe, caring, and family-focused community.

🛺 Golf Cart Reminder

A quick reminder: Golf carts operated on City streets are subject to Shrewsbury ordinance 340.115.

• A valid driver’s license is required to operate a golf cart.
• Golf carts are generally limited to streets with a posted speed limit of 25 MPH or less.
• Golf carts must have required lights, brakes, and safety equipment, as well as liability insurance.
• Operators must follow all applicable traffic laws.

• On Tuesday, 08/06/26, a man was stopped for license plates that expired in 2024. In a shocking plot twist none of us saw coming (wink wink), he also had no driver’s license and no insurance. That’s right: expired plates, no license, no insurance. The coveted TRAFFIC TRIFECTA. He was arrested and will appear in our Municipal Court.

• On Wednesday, 08/07/26, a U. City man was arrested after he decided Walmart was offering a “wear now, pay never” special. He entered the store empty-handed and began “shopping” for clothing items and a backpack. After concealing clothes and shoes into the backpack, he then selected another pair of shoes and a jacket, both of which he put on and wore out of the store without stopping to pay for any of the merchandise. The old “if I’m wearing it, it’s mine now” defense did not work. Because he’s had at least five prior stealing convictions since 2019, his case will be forwarded to the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for the felony charge of Stealing 4th Offense within 10 Years. Lesson obviously not yet learned.

• On Saturday, 08/08/26, a woman was arrested for concealing over $115 in bath wash, body oil, and other merchandise in her purse and down the front of her shorts and then walking out of the store without paying for the items. Despite her product selection, she did not make a clean getaway. She will now appear in front of our Municipal Judge.

• On Sunday, 08/09/26, a man was arrested for shoplifting after concealing alcohol in a bag, refilling his cigarette lighter with butane, and then returning the now-used butane can to the store shelf, presumably so the next customer gets a reduced product at full price. He then exited without paying. The man said he “didn’t mean to steal” and said his friend was waiting outside and was intending to pay for the items. He was merely going out to retrieve him. Oh, well then, of course. That makes total sense… not. Welcome to Muni Court, Sir. We saved a seat for you.

In addition to these reports, between August 3rd and August 9th, Shrewsbury officers also responded to 15 auto accidents, 2 disturbances, 4 suspicious activity calls, 3 trespassing calls, and 8 theft calls. We assisted the Fire Department with 20 calls and conducted 31 traffic stops.
