On Tuesday, May 19, we held a reception for our 24th Annual Customers’ Choice Community Grants program at the Garden House at Look Memorial Park. A total of 40 local nonprofits were awarded a share of the $150,000 grant pool based on Florence Bank customer votes that were received in 2025.

Congratulations to this year’s winners for lifting spirits, raising awareness, and improving lives. Because when you vote, everyone wins.

We love our sponsor and their support for the Shutesbury Public Library

After 30 years of organizing. After countless bake sales and cans recycled. After spaghetti supper fundraisers and the first ever Roadtown Turkey Trot. After many town meetings where residents grappled with supporting a new library among so much else that needs funding, Library Director Mary Anne Antonellis cut the ribbon and welcomed the community to Shutesbury Public Library.

It was joyous morning, with heaps of thanks rightly bestowed on the Trustees, Building Committee, Select Board, residents — and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners which established a small library program making it possible for communities like Shutesbury to apply for funds.

In building this library, Shutesbury said YES to democracy and free access to information. YES to its children and teens (who raced about this morning). YES to seniors. YES to creating a perfect space for gathering. YES to hope and an investment in the future of the Town.

And speaking of gathering, my first stop on a district library tour was at the MN Spear library just up the road. At more than 100 years and fewer than 800 square feet, Mary Anne remembered today that she had to close the library so that I could gather with constituents. That won't have to happen now and we're already making plans for a Town Hall this winter/spring — in, of course, the BEAUTIFUL Shutesbury PUBLIC library.

Honored to join and say words of love and celebration. Thankful to represent Shutesbury with Rep. Aaron Saunders and Congressman Jim McGovern.

These are brutal times. This morning reminds us of the good that's possible. And it strikes me as an embodiment of the grit and grace of the people I work for.

Spear Memorial Library, preparing them for their short journey to the new Shutesbury Public Library. Less than five hours later, all of the circula...
