Help Wanted: Community Members Needed to Serve as Election Judges in 2026

As preparations begin for the 2026 election cycle, the Clerk and Recorder’s Office is calling on community members to step forward and serve as election judges for the upcoming Primary Election on June 2, 2026, and the General Election on November 3, 2026.

Election judges, also known as poll workers, play a vital role in ensuring that elections run smoothly, fairly, and efficiently. These individuals assist with checking in voters, issuing ballots, and helping maintain an orderly voting environment throughout Election Day. Their work helps uphold the integrity of the democratic process at the local level.

Officials are seeking dependable, community-minded individuals who are willing to commit to a full day of service from 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Election Day. Election workers must be a registered voter in Richland County. No prior experience is required, as all election judges will receive training ahead of time. To better accommodate busy schedules, both daytime and newly added evening training sessions will be available this year.

Serving as an election judge is not only a paid opportunity, but also a rewarding way to be directly involved in the civic process. Workers receive an hourly wage, as well as lunch during their shift. Additionally, the training provided qualifies participants to assist with future school elections.

Residents who may be unsure about their availability are still encouraged to attend training or reach out for more information. There is no obligation to work both the primary and general elections in order to participate.

By volunteering as an election judge, local residents have a unique opportunity to support their community and play a direct role in the election process.

Community members interested in serving or those who would like to recommend someone else are encouraged to contact the Clerk and Recorder’s Office at 406-433-1708 to learn more or sign up for a training session. Email [email protected]
