📢 We’re sharing this on behalf of Sidney Safety Services. There is no ongoing threat or danger to the public.

On Friday, September 25th, investigators from the Sidney Police Department and K9 search teams from Buckeye Search and Rescue will be conducting operations in the wooded areas between Park Street and Fourth Avenue. You will see many K9's dressed as in the attached photo and you will see many police officers - there is no ongoing threat or danger to the public.

These operations are being conducted as a procedural formality in the missing person case of Lakesha Archie. Lakesha went missing in 2002 and was living in this area at the time of her disappearance. She has not been seen or heard from her disappearance. At this time, investigators have no reason to suspect that Archie will be located in the search areas. However, it is vital to exhaust all investigative leads and tools at our disposal.

⛈️ Storms have fired up across the region. This is the beginning of repetitive rounds of showers and thunderstorms expected through the night.

🌧️ Our primary concern will be flooding, with the threat increasing as we head through the overnight hours.

🌧️ Shelby County remains under a Flood Watch from 7:00 PM this evening through Monday morning.

🌧️ Rainfall: Widespread amounts of 1–3 inches are possible overnight, with isolated higher amounts possible where repeated rounds of storms occur.

💧 Flooding: With a very moisture-rich atmosphere in place, thunderstorms will be capable of producing heavy rainfall in a short period of time. Flash flooding of roads, creeks, streams, and other low-lying or flood-prone areas will be possible.

📍 Uncertainty remains: The exact location of the heaviest rainfall corridor is still uncertain. Not everyone will receive the highest totals, but areas where storms repeatedly move over the same locations could see significant rainfall.

🌙 Timing is important: Much of the heavy rain and potential flooding will occur after dark, making flooded roadways more difficult to see.

⚠️ Tonight: Please remain weather aware, especially if you’ll be traveling overnight. Never attempt to drive through a flooded roadway.

🌧️ FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FOR SHELBY COUNTY 🌧️

⏰ From 7:00 PM this evening through Monday morning

📍 Shelby County is under a Flood Watch as another round of heavy rain moves into the area overnight.

🌧️ Showers and thunderstorms producing heavy rain are expected. Rainfall totals of 1–3 inches are possible, with locally higher amounts.

⚠️ With the ground already saturated from recent rainfall, additional heavy rain could quickly lead to flash flooding. Excessive runoff may also result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, low-lying areas, and other flood-prone locations.

📍 The Flood Watch also includes:

🔹 Indiana: Dearborn, Fayette, Franklin, Ripley, Union, and Wayne Counties.

🔹 Ohio: Adams, Auglaize, Brown, Butler, Champaign, Clark, Clermont, Clinton, Darke, Delaware, Fairfield, Fayette, Franklin, Greene, Hamilton, Hardin, Highland, Hocking, Licking, Logan, Madison, Mercer, Miami, Montgomery, Pickaway, Pike, Preble, Ross, Scioto, Union, and Warren Counties.

🚗 Please use extra caution if traveling tonight and overnight. Never drive through a flooded roadway — Turn Around, Don’t Drown!

⚠️ Per our partners at NWS Wilmington -

“We are seeing some signals for a greater chance for strong to severe storms to develop this afternoon into this evening. As of right now, we are expecting a broken line of storms to develop and quickly progress to the southeast through the area. While not all storms along the line will be severe, some embedded severe storms will be possible during this time, with damaging winds being the primary threat. The graphic here shows the approximate timing of the storms, with the times on the map representing the middle point of a 2-hour window.”

Today begins another stretch of active weather across the region.

Showers and thunderstorms this afternoon may produce strong to damaging wind gusts as well as locally heavy rain. Additional storms overnight, mainly after midnight, will pose another heavy rain threat.

🌧️ We’ve had quite a bit of rain over the past few days, and while we get a break today, rain chances return tomorrow and continue into early next week.

Use the breaks in the rain to take a few minutes around your home to help prepare for additional rounds of rain.
