⚠️⚠️ 𝗦𝗖𝗔𝗠 𝗔𝗟𝗘𝗥𝗧 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗩𝗘𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗦 ⚠️⚠️

We've been asked by the Nebraska Department of Veterans' Affairs to help spread the word about a scam currently targeting Veterans.

Some Veterans have reported receiving messages and emails promoting a "Free Athletic Shoes from VA" program. This is 𝐍𝐎𝐓 a legitimate VA offer and appears to be using the VA name and logo to gain personal information.

𝐏𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐝𝐨 𝐍𝐎𝐓:
❌ Click links in emails about free athletic shoes
❌ Create accounts through unsolicited links
❌ Provide personal or financial information

If you have already interacted with one of these messages, please report it to the VA Office of Inspector General Fraud Hotline at 1-800-488-8244 or online at va.gov/oig.

There is a legitimate process for Veterans to receive shoes through VA, but it must be 𝙢𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙣𝙚𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙖𝙧𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙘𝙧𝙞𝙗𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙝𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙫𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙧. If you believe you have a condition that may qualify, please discuss it with your VA primary provider.

Please help us share this information with other Veterans and their families.

Yesterday, we had the honor of flying the America 250 Anniversary Flag at the Veterans Section of Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney.

A special thank you to Garden Arthur Keith Veterans , for setting this incredible project in motion. This certified flag will continue its journey through all 93 counties in Nebraska, eventually resting in a beautiful flag display case built by the Ogallala High School Woodshop, where it will be housed at the Keith County Courthouse.

Today, we were proud to pass the flag on to the Morrill County Veterans Service Office as it continues its statewide journey.

As our nation prepares to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 2026, this flag serves as a reminder of the generations of Americans who have defended the freedoms and ideals upon which our country was founded. For 250 years, ordinary citizens have answered the call to serve their communities and their nation, leaving a legacy of courage, sacrifice, and patriotism.

Keep an eye out for where the flag appears next, and if you have the opportunity to attend one of these ceremonies in your community, take a moment to reflect on the history we share and the people who have helped preserve it for the last 250 years.

Join us today at 11:00 a.m. at the Veterans Section of Greenwood Cemetery as we proudly raise the 250th Anniversary American Flag in honor of our nation's upcoming semi quincentennial celebration.

This special flag is traveling across all 93 counties in Nebraska and is being officially certified along its journey, making its stop here in Cheyenne County a meaningful part of our state's tribute to 250 years of American history.

We invite veterans, their families, and all community members to come together for this patriotic moment of remembrance, pride, and unity.

The Nebraska State Service Office has received quite a few calls from veterans about receiving texts that claim to be the VA and asking the veteran to update information.

This image is from a veteran that just received a disability rating for the first time. The VA has all the needed information as it went in with the claim.

When doing a quick research, the phone number came up with warnings about scams. It is best to not click on the link in the text but to go to your VA.gov account and check your information and claim updates there.
