🐾 End of Watch: April 16, 2026

It is with a heavy heart that we must announce that retired Sidney Police Department K9 Xero passed away from natural causes yesterday evening at his home. He was 13 years old.

K9 Xero was born on December 19, 2012, in Hungary and was imported into the U.S. by Southern Police Canine Inc. in North Carolina. Half German Shepherd and half Belgian Malinois, the Sidney Police Department acquired K9 Xero from SPCI in May 2014, and was able to do so in large part because of the tremendous generosity and support from the Sidney community.

K9 Xero was considered a dual-purpose K9 trained in both narcotics detection and patrol operations, which included suspect apprehension, tracking, and evidence/article recovery. Xero faithfully served our community with unwavering loyalty, courage, and dedication for over 6 years until his retirement in late 2020. Xero truly exemplified what it means to serve with purpose and heart.

K9 Xero had a great personality and temperament, and knew how to turn up the intensity when it was time for business, or tone it down when it was time to simply be a dog, and was a great ambassador for the Sidney PD. Xero loved kids and being out in public and was always down for a scratch or a pat on the head.

While we mourn his passing, we are deeply grateful for the impact he made and his service to this community.

We are delighted to welcome two new officers to the Sidney Police Department!

Officer Fiola and Officer Gonzales have both been participating in our field training program, so you may have encountered them in the community accompanied by their training officers.
Officer Fiola possesses prior law enforcement experience and will complete the Montana Law Enforcement Equivalency training in Helena, MT this year.
Officer Gonzales will also be attending the Montana Law Enforcement Officer Basic course in Helena, MT this year.

Last month, the Sidney Police Department celebrated a significant milestone with our very own, Captain Travis Rosaaen.

Capt. Rosaaen has dedicated 25 years to service, unwavering commitment, and dedication to the Sidney community.

He continues to show up every day for the department and the community, and for that, we thank not only him but also his family, who have supported and continue to support him.

Winter roads can be unpredictable—your safety doesn’t have to be.

As temperatures drop, snow and ice dramatically increase the risk of accidents. Protect yourself and others by following these winter driving tips:

* Slow Down. Speed limits are for ideal conditions—reduce speed on snow and ice.
* Increase following distance. Allow at least 6-8seconds between vehicles.
* Use winter tires. They provide significantly better traction in cold conditions.
* Brake gently. Sudden braking can cause sliding.
* Clear your vehicle fully. Remove snow and ice from windows, mirrors, lights, and roof.
* Be prepared. Carry an emergency kit with blankets, flashlight, phone charger, and food.

Sidney Holiday Parking Reminder

Help keep our streets safe, clear, and accessible this holiday season!

Please remember:
🔄 No wrong-way parking — your vehicle must face the direction of traffic.
🚫 Keep sidewalks clear — do not park on or block any pedestrian pathways.
🚓 Never block alleys — emergency and service vehicles need full access at all times.
🏡 Do not block residential driveways — even partially.
♿ Handicap parking is for permit holders only — never park in or block designated accessible spaces or access aisles.
🚛 Heavy vehicle restriction — vehicles over 32,000 lbs GVW are not allowed in residential areas.
Thank you for being a valued member of the Sidney community.
Your attention to parking regulations helps keep our city safe, accessible, and welcoming for everyone this holiday season.

With the snowy season upon us, please be extra mindful of the Sidney Public Works crew working hard to keep our streets plowed and safe.
