Today members of the NYS Aerial Operators class held in Sidney put their classroom training to the test. Members from Sidney, Delhi Fire Department, and Unadilla Fire Department practiced operating a variety of aerial apparatus. Thank you to the Walton Fire Department for providing their ladder truck for the class to use in addition to Sidney and Delhi Fire Department’s aerials. You will see the class back out and about next Saturday for their final day of practical skills.

The Sidney Fire Department will be hosting the NYS OFPC Apparatus Operator - Aerial Devices course starting Tuesday March 31st. The course is now available to register through LMS.

As we wind down our bowling tournament fundraiser, we would like to thank everyone who bowled, bought raffle tickets, and most importantly to the businesses that supported through sponsoring the event through donations. We also would like to thank East Main Lanes for hosting our tournament.

Tonight members of the Sidney Fire Department held a work detail to put new equipment into service.

Many reading this may not realize that the Sidney Fire Department is composed of two parts; the Village of Sidney Fire Department and the Sidney Fire Department Corporation. What’s the difference you may ask? The Fire Department performs the firematic duties such as drills, trainings and responding to emergencies. Our Corporation is made up of a Board of Directors and Trustees who oversee our training center, donations, investments, and general business matters of the department.

The officers and members of the Sidney Fire Department Corporation are proud to announce the recent purchase of new Scott SCBA air packs, bottles and masks. These packs will provide for years of life safety equipment for our members to continue to perform their selfless duties. This purchase was over $215,000 and was paid for through years of fundraisers, donations, and smart money investments. That’s right-this purchase cost neither the Village of Sidney nor the taxpayer residents any money, and actually avoided a potential 11% increase to make this necessary life safety purchase!!!

The next time you see our department having a turkey raffle, bowling tournament or other fundraiser, remember that every dollar counts! All money we raise gets invested by our Corporation for larger investment purchases for the department and to offset any taxpayer funds or tax increases.

We thank each and every person who has donated to our department. Take note that your donations are not spent on frivolous purchases. To those who will donate at future events, keep in mind that every bit counts and when a community comes together big things can happen!

When the dig out begins from today’s snow storm, please remember to clear at least 3 feet or greater in all directions around your nearest fire hydrant with a clear path to the street. Please also remove snow off the hose connections, if able.

Today has been a very busy day for the volunteers of the Sidney fire department. At 2:56 this morning crews were requested by Borden's Hose Company for mutual aid to Mount Upton for a structure fire. Sidney crews worked at this scene for just over an hour and a half. As crews were putting trucks back in service a second structure fire call came in at 4:43AM within our own district. We were on scene operating within 3 minutes. Crews spent over three hours on scene extinguishing the fire, ventilating and performing overhaul. Crews then spent several more hours putting equipment, trucks and gear back in service to be ready and prepared for the next call.

We would like to thank the Unadilla Fire Department and Sidney Emergency Medical Services, who responded to the scene. Also, Sidney Center Fire Department for covering our station and being available for any additional calls within our district, the Sidney Fire Department Auxiliary for providing hot drinks and food and the town of Unadilla for assisting in treating the slick roadway. It’s these inter-department relationships that make for successful responses and providing our communities with professional services.

Today at 4:33 Sidney Fire and Sidney EMS were called for a two car accident on I-88. Upon arrival it was determined that a tractor trailer and two other vehicles had been involved in a crash with multiple patients. Sidney Fire worked to extricate all patients safely as Sidney EMS began triage and patient care.

We would like to thank Sidney Emergency Medical Services, Unadilla Fire Department, NYSDOT, NYSP, Delaware County EMS, Franklin Fire & Rescue, and Otsego County EMS. A professional job was done by all agencies working together seamlessly to provide aid for all victims and to make the scene safe.

The 4th annual Sidney Fire Department No-Tap bowling tournament is coming! Big change this year as the tournament has been cut down to just 2 weeks. 1/10-1/11 and 1/17-1/18 with 2 squads every day of the tournament. No-Tap is easier than traditional bowling scoring as you only need to knock down 9 pins for a strike!

There will be 50/50 raffles, 300 game jackpots, a bowling ball raffle, and while supplies last, our gun/cash raffle tickets for sale!

On Sunday December 20th at 10:19PM the Sidney Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire within the Village of Sidney. Upon arrival a working structure fire was confirmed and Unadilla Fire Department was placed on standby. The Sidney Fire Department responded with our engine, ladder truck, and tanker with 14 members and performed an aggressive interior attack, which resulted in containing the fire to one room of the residence. Crews then performed overhaul and ventilation operations with the assistance of Unadilla Fire. The Sidney Center Fire Department was placed on standby to cover calls in both districts. Crews were back in service at 12:30AM Monday morning.

We would like to thank the members of the Sidney Fire Department, Unadilla Fire Department, Sidney Center Fire Department, Sidney EMS, the Village of Sidney Police Department and Delaware County Emergency Services Coordinators.
