Miss Heidi hosted a summer reading program at the Lakin Library and Envisioning Center in Tabor June 23. She featured sunflowers! There were 37 people attending! Thank you to Sycamore Ridge Small Farm for donating some of our dried sunflower heads.

Survivor Day Camp took place last week and the kids got to learn about sun dials, water filtration, knot tying, compasses, and more! The County Council members did a great job assisting kids in learning and making s'mores for snack.

Our first day camp of the summer was All About Bugs back on June 3rd. The kids got to inspect live worms, look at bugs in resin, and even got to do an obstacle course with glasses that allowed them see how a fly would.

Miss Heidi hosted another Growing Strong Families group connection June 10 at the fairgrounds. We learned about Fire Safety with a special speaker and lots of fun activities! Crop farmers and agronomists looking for the latest in herbicide and crop production are invited to join the Summer Field Day at the Armstrong Research and Demonstration Farm on June 25.

Hosted by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, the educational field day offers an opportunity to increase knowledge of herbicide practices, fungicide treatments and sulfur effects in row crops and other timely crop production topics.

The field day will take place at the Armstrong Research and Demonstration Farm, located at 53020 Hitchcock Avenue, Lewis. On-site registration begins at 9:30 a.m., with the field day running from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided, and Certified Crop Advisors can earn 0.5 crop management, 1.5 pest management and 0.5 nutrient management credits.

This event is open to the public at no cost, thanks to the support from ISU Extension and Outreach, ISU Research Farms and the Wallace Foundation.
