🇺🇸 Never Forget - September 11, 2001 🇺🇸

It hardly seems possible that 25 years have passed since the day that changed our nation forever. On September 11, 2001, 2,977 innocent lives were lost, including 441 first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving others:

🚒 343 Firefighters and Paramedics
👮 71 Law Enforcement Officers
🚑 27 EMTs and Emergency Personnel

To honor their memory and the memory of all those who lost their lives, the Sidney Volunteer Fire Department will display one of its fire trucks with the American flag hoisted on Friday, September 11, 2026. **The location will be announced once finalized.**

We invite our community to participate in a special remembrance project. If you would like to write a letter, you may hand it to one of the first responders stationed at the truck on September 11. Your letter may include:

• Your memories of that day and how it affected you
• A message of thanks to first responders
• A prayer for the families who lost loved ones
• Your thoughts on ensuring future generations never forget September 11

These letters will not be opened locally. They will be sent directly to the 9/11 Memorial Museum at Ground Zero in New York City as part of this memorial effort.

As we mark this solemn anniversary, we ask everyone to take a moment out of their day for a prayer, a moment of silence, reflection, or to simply stop by and thank a first responder for their service.

We will never forget.

The Sidney Police Department wants to notify residents that tomorrow between 0900–1000 hours, officers will be conducting a training exercise north of town.

This training will involve concussive devices and smoke‑generating equipment. These tools create loud bangs and visible smoke as part of controlled training scenarios.

👉 There is NO emergency.
👉 Please do not be alarmed if you see smoke or hear loud noises in the northeast area of town during this time.

This is scheduled training to help our officers stay prepared and ready to serve the community.

Thank you for your understanding and support. Stay safe, Sidney!
