Good Evening Shelby County,
Over the past several days, I have been made aware that letters are being sent to landowners in Southern Shelby County regarding the proposed Grid Growth Ventures 765kv electric transmission line project.
As both a Shelby County Commissioner and a 4th Generation Farmer, I understand that our land is more than just property. For many of us, it is our livelihood and something we hope to pass on to the next generation in better condition than when we received it. Decisions that affect our farms, homes, and communities deserve careful consideration and should never be rushed through.
I want residents to know that I am actively working to ensure Shelby County has a voice throughout this process. I am working with the Shelby Soil and Water Conservation District as well as Farm Bureau and OSU Extension to gain resources to better help our residents. We are also working through on how we become an Interested Party/Intervener through the FERC/OPSB siting process so that we can advocate for the interest of Shelby County residents and Landowners.
If you receive a letter or are contacted by representatives of the project, I encourage you to reach out and call my office and share that information. I am working to comprise a list of possibly affected landowners to better understand what all this project will effect. The more we understand about the conversations taking place the better equipped we can all be to stay informed and engaged.
Most Importantly, I encourage every landowner to take their time and do your homework. Absolutely do not sign anything simply because you feel pressured or believe you need to make an immediate decision. Ask questions to gain more information, seek help through resources like Farm Bureau, and talk with your family and outside legal counsel before making any decisions.
If you have received a letter or would like to discuss this project, please do not hesitate to contact me at 937-498-7308 or 937-726-8247.
Our community has a long history of
stewardship, hard work, and preserving what has been entrusted to us. Let’s continue that tradition by staying informed, asking questions and looking out for one another throughout this process. Please share with anyone that you feel may be affected.
