Sierra Vista Unified School District #68

Sierra Vista Unified School District #68 In 1915, a one-room building opened its doors as the Buena school in order to serve the growing population of settlers around the gates of Fort Huachuca.

K-8 students were instructed for 40 years in that adobe brick building located approximately where the Chili’s restaurant in Sierra Vista, AZ stands today. Shortly after the incorporation of The City of Sierra Vista, Arizona, the residents felt that their city needed its own high school and school district. Carmichael School was built in Sierra Vista in 1956 serving grades K-12, and the Sierra Vis

ta Unified School District was born. While we maintain our strong heritage, we have come a long way since our days teaching behind adobe walls. Today our school district has six elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. Our teachers are dedicated to education and have more years of experience than the Arizona state and peer group average. Additionally, 127 of our teachers hold either a masters or doctorate degree. All are highly certified ambassadors of education. The SVUSD Board is committed to a policy of nondiscrimination in relation to race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, and disability. This policy will prevail in all matters concerning staff members, students, the public, educational programs and services, and individuals with whom the Board does business. Discrimination includes harassment. Staff members or students who are found to have violated this policy are subject to discipline.

Yesterday, we came together as one team. Today, we welcomed our students back.

Our annual Welcome Back Celebration reminded us of the incredible impact every SVUSD employee has on the lives of our students. From our teachers and bus drivers to cafeteria staff, custodians, office teams, maintenance crews, special education staff, and every department in betweenβ€”we are united by one purpose: serving the students of Sierra Vista Unified School District.

As we begin this new school year, we're filled with excitement, optimism, and a renewed commitment to ensuring every student feels seen, heard, valued, and supported. Our goal is simple: every student will know they have a trusted adult at school who believes in them and helps them succeed.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made yesterday's celebration so special, including our Governing Board, the Buena High School Marching Colts, Buena High School JROTC, Cochise County Superintendent Dr. Jacqui Clay, SVEA President Yolanda Everett, SVUSD Teacher of the Year Ms. Cynthia Avery, the Education Foundation of Sierra Vista, and the SSVEC Foundation for helping us kick off the year with inspiration and generosity.

Here's to an amazing school year ahead. Welcome back, studentsβ€”we're so glad you're here! πŸ’™πŸŽπŸ“š

School is back in session, and our community is ready to welcome you! πŸ’™πŸŽπŸš“πŸš’

Our local police officers and firefighters joined together to share a special Back to School message for our students, families, and staff. Their partnership and support are a reminder that it takes an entire community to help our schools thrive.

Thank you to our Sierra Vista Police, Fire, and EMS Departments for taking the time to help us kick off another great school year. We wish everyone a safe, successful, and unforgettable year ahead!

Welcome backβ€”we can't wait to see what this school year brings! ✨

πŸšπŸ›‘ School Starts Wednesday, August 5! πŸ›‘πŸš

Our buses will be back on the road, safely transporting students to and from school. As we kick off the new school year, we ask everyone in our community to help keep our students safe.

When you see a school bus with its red flashing lights and stop arm extended, STOP. Those few extra moments could save a child's life.

Together, we can make this a safe and successful school year for every student.

πŸ’šπŸ§‘ Thank you for doing your part to protect our students as we work toward Achieving Excellence Together!
