Sierra Vista Unified School District #68 In 1915, a one-room building opened its doors as the Buena school in order to serve the growing population of settlers around the gates of Fort Huachuca.

K-8 students were instructed for 40 years in that adobe brick building located approximately where the Chili’s restaurant in Sierra Vista, AZ stands today. Shortly after the incorporation of The City of Sierra Vista, Arizona, the residents felt that their city needed its own high school and school district. Carmichael School was built in Sierra Vista in 1956 serving grades K-12, and the Sierra Vista Unified School District was born. While we maintain our strong heritage, we have come a long way since our days teaching behind adobe walls. Today our school district has six elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. Our teachers are dedicated to education and have more years of experience than the Arizona state and peer group average. Additionally, 127 of our teachers hold either a masters or doctorate degree. All are highly certified ambassadors of education. The SVUSD Board is committed to a policy of nondiscrimination in relation to race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, and disability. This policy will prevail in all matters concerning staff members, students, the public, educational programs and services, and individuals with whom the Board does business. Discrimination includes harassment. Staff members or students who are found to have violated this policy are subject to discipline.

It’s Homecoming Night at Buena, and we can’t wait to welcome our students, families, alumni, and community to cheer on the C**ts! 🐴

Before you head to the stadium, please take a moment to review our Stadium Safety Guidelines so everyone can enjoy a safe and fun night.

✅ Approved Items: Stadium cushions/folding chairs, strollers, empty refillable or sealed water bottles, clear plastic bags, small clutches, and clear backpacks. All bags are subject to search.

❌ Not Approved: Wagons, regular backpacks, coolers, noise makers, tobacco/vapes/alcohol/drugs, speakers, propane tanks, and outside food or drinks.

⚠️ Please remember: There is NO RE-ENTRY once you leave the stadium.

🎡🎨 **SVUSD Students Are Fair Ready!** 🐄🌟

The Cochise County Fair is here, and we’re excited to see our students’ hard work on display! Several pieces of student work from across SVUSD have been entered in this year’s fair, showcasing the creativity, talent, and learning happening in our classrooms. 🧡💚

Several of our classes are also heading to the fair today for field trips! Students will have the chance to explore everything the fair has to offer, check out exhibits from across Cochise County, and—of course—find their own work proudly displayed alongside entries from throughout our community.

There’s something pretty special about seeing your hard work on display at the County Fair! 👏

☕ Great conversations can lead to brighter tomorrows! 🧡💚

Yesterday, SVUSD was proud to host School Café, bringing together community leaders, local businesses, civic and service organizations, faith-based groups, and other community partners around one important goal: supporting our students and strengthening our schools.

School Café, an initiative of the Cochise County School Superintendent’s Office, creates an opportunity for schools and community members to connect, share ideas, identify needs, and explore meaningful ways we can work together.

A huge thank you to everyone who pulled up a chair, joined the conversation, and shared their time and ideas with us. Strong schools are built with strong community partnerships, and we appreciate everyone who is helping create more opportunities for SVUSD students to thrive.

🎭 Buena Fine Arts Presents Horse Girl

Get ready for a night of dark comedy, teenage intensity, and a whole lot of horse obsession! Buena Fine Arts proudly presents Horse Girl, a dark teen comedy by Jenny Rachel Weiner, on October 2 & 3 at 7:00 p.m. at the Klein Center for the Performing Arts at Buena High School.

At the center of Horse Girl is Ashleigh, a 12-year-old equestrian enthusiast whose world revolves around horses and her riding club, the Lady Jean Ladies. When the girls learn that their beloved horses may be in danger, their devotion quickly escalates into an increasingly wild mission to save them. What begins as youthful passion takes some surprising—and very darkly funny—turns as the play explores friendship, loyalty, obsession, growing up, and just how far someone might go for something they love.

But the story on stage is only part of what makes this production special.

This is student theatre from curtain to curtain. Buena students aren't just the performers you see on stage—they are involved in designing, building, and running the entire production. From sets and costumes to lighting, backstage operations, technical production, and even the ticket booth, students are gaining hands-on experience in every aspect of bringing a live theatrical production to life.

When you attend a Buena Fine Arts production, you're not simply coming to see a play. You're supporting student actors, designers, technicians, artists, builders, and creators who have put their talents and hard work into creating something for our community.

Grab the family and join us for an evening of fall fun at the Huachuca Mountain Neighborhood School Fall

Festival on Friday, October 2, from 4:00–7:00 PM!

Sponsored by our amazing PTO and hosted by Student Council, this year's festival will be packed with carnival games, concessions, obstacle courses, a bounce house, foam pit, community partners, and plenty of family fun!

🎟️ Admission: $10 for a family of four
➕ Additional family members: $2 each
🎯 Game & concession tickets: $1 each
🏃 Field activities are FREE with admission!

You’re Invited! Celebrate 70 Years of Carmichael Neighborhood School 🐻🎉

For 70 years, Carmichael Neighborhood School has been a place where generations of Bears have learned, grown, made memories, and built lasting connections. Now, we’re bringing our school community together to celebrate this incredible milestone!

Please join us on Wednesday, September 30, as we celebrate Carmichael Neighborhood School’s 70th Anniversary!

The celebration will begin during the school day with a special BBQ for current Carmichael students. At 12:15 p.m., families, staff, alumni, and community members are invited to join us for a Ribbon Cutting and Time Capsule Ceremony honoring Carmichael’s history and looking ahead to its future.

Then, from 1:00–3:00 p.m., the celebration continues with our 70th Anniversary Block Party! 🎉 Come enjoy food trucks, music, games, activities, community organizations, and plenty of Bear pride. Whether you are a current Carmichael family, a former student or staff member, or simply part of the SVUSD community, all are welcome!

Carmichael’s story began in 1956, when Margaret Carmichael donated the land for the school, which was named in honor of her husband, William Carmichael. Seventy years later, that legacy continues through the students, families, educators, and community members who have helped make Carmichael what it is today.
We hope you’ll come celebrate the memories, reconnect with old friends, and help us mark 70 years of learning, family, community, and Bear pride!
